I just picked up this 2012 Golf TDI this week to keep my Comanche out of the salt and to help with my 35 mile commute. I want to stay in street for solo, but the SCCA rules aren't written around diesels. So, would a DPF back exhaust be counted the same as a cat back? Also, would I benefit more from a front or rear ARB?
First off, cool user name! Second, I believe for the street class you need to have all the emissions things hooked up, I think Exhaust is OK to go, you just have to watch your diameter. The golf is a short wheelbase, But heavy. I would say rear sway bar is needed, but testing will need to be done to ensure that.

I read ARB as in the manufacturer and you wanted an air locker in the front or rear. Anti roll bar makes way more sense.
To bad you can't modify the exhaust from the turbo back. I did a DPF and EGR delete to my 2012 Jetta TDI along with a high flow turbo down pipe but kept the CAT. This plus a re-flash of the ECM and I can let the clutch out in 1st and get rolling then peg the throttle and spin the tires. I have to watch it in the rain as I have spun them even in 3rd & 4th gear! Much funner to drive than a stock one! Plus it gets more miles per gallon!

If that follows typical VW chassis tuning, stock front roll bar and the biggest roll bar in the back you can find.
I will be watching this. With the acceleration of diesels, this should be interesting.
So the car is in H street, which I'm sure you already knew.
Safter doing some research, I see that the DPF attaches to the turbo. as long as there's no other emissions controls after it that you're removing, I would say you're in the clear to replace the exhaust after that and it exits out the stock location based upon the wording of the rules.
Any part of the
exhaust system beyond (downstream from) the last catalytic converter, if so equipped, may be substituted or removed provided the system exits the car in the original location and meets the requirements of Section 3.3.3.B.16, Section 3.5 and Appendix I where applicable. Vehicles equipped with exhausts that exit in multiple locations may change to a single outlet in any of the original locations. Stainless steel heat exchangers are permitted only if the physical dimensions and configuration remain unchanged.
And to your other question, absolutely a rear sway bar. you're going to need all the help you can get to get this thing to turn and being FWD you just stabilize it with the throttle.
I wouldn't make any changes until you drive the thing. Unless you are an experienced autocrosser, I'd just throw tires on it and roll.
Just drive it and go from there gets my vote..
I had that exact car that VW bought back. Malone tune, DPF delete, resonator delet., H&R springs and Koni FSDs. It was an awesome fun commuter. It needed antiroll bars for more aggressive use. Also word of warning. No way to completely turn off ESC. Traction control comes off but if you're really hooning it the ESC is intrusive.
