Had a friend with one.  He said the gaskets won't blow if you retorqued the head bolts on a regular basis.  He bought one that needed up to a quarter turn on the bolts to come up to spec.

Sounds like Toyota cast the heads out of putty and the head bolt posts are crushing over time.
