It's an Ed Roth style Frankenstein driving a Rambler. It's very well done.

The sad part is he paid like $1000 all in to get that mural painted and the hood cleared and it probably dropped the value of the car by $5k.

My Z4 M coupe should be listed at BaT within the week, we just agreed on terms yesterday, I need to pay today and upload more of the pictures I have. They have been fine to deal with so far, I'm hoping to get a fair price and not deal with the hassles of CL or eBay for a rare car that needs a national audience to find the right buyer.

I sold my Rolls Royce Lemons car there a few years ago and that worked out great. Depending on how this goes I will likely list my Citroen SM Lemons car there too for similar reasons, and then potentially my MGA.

Wow, that image does hurt the value!

Maybe it is time for $40 of flat black vinyl to cover the hood sort of Mopar style.

Vinyl warp the hood and re-list. Disclosure this during the sale. Let the new owner decide whether to "unwrap it" or not.

It's almost as much to just paint the hood, I already got quotes (both matching red, professionally done). It's not my car though, so I can't do it. I'm just the authorized selling agent. If I had the spare scratch, I'd buy the car, fix the hood and the other minor issues, and sell it at the AMC Nationals.

If i was the owner of BaT i would certainly be hurt by your lamentations and would thus cry into my money.

I think you misunderstand. I'm not lamenting. Frankly, I don't care where this car sells or even if it sells, it's not even mine. I was genuinely curious what changed at BaT.

I would have thought the Rambler would be an easy acceptance for any auction site, but really didn't think anytone would want to touch my engine swapped Jag with a 10 foot pole. Not only did BaT accept the Jag, they treated me very well and it was a successful auction and I posted positive reviews online. It just seemed off that the same people were now saying no to a less controversial car.

Now if they don't want to sell my turd brown Alfa, then I'll start lamenting!

They agreed to sell my LSx swapped 951 but wanted me to accept a very low reserve price. So I declined and ended up selling it locally on Craigslist of all places. For quite a bit more (like 75% more) than the reserve price they wanted me to accept.

It's entirely possible that it may have sold for the same amount, or more, on BaT, but I didn't appreciate them trying to control my bottom line....

I would take this off and hang it on my garage wall, and find another hood to put on the Rambler.

BaT has become a popular auction site and as a result they have way more cars submitted for auction than they can actually fit. They already post something like a 10-20 auction cars a day, going up from that substantially will tire out the readers. They can't accept everything, there just isn't room, so there has to be a decision process.

My guess would be that the bra and "tops off" quote on the mural are something they see as potentially offensive to readers, and that's going to pose a significant challenge to acceptance when competing for limited slots with a lot of other cars.

What if you put it on Craigslist and then submit it to BAT as just one of those interesting car that they (used to) list. I remember, before their auctions became such a big part of the site, that they had a whole big bunch of neat, vintage, or out-of-the-ordinary cars listed.

Worth a try, Craigslist is free and easy to use and it could be a conduit to BAT or you might just be able to sell the car on CL.

Certainly wouldn't want an Ed Roth-ish mural to be offensive...

I'd get that if they just completely declined, but they didn't. They'll list the car, but only at no reserve. You can't feign offense at the mural and take my money.

I wasn't so much referring to your questions about the inner workings as the people who were discussing the way it went upmarket.

In reply to Javelin:

I don't know that there's any offense taken. The Ed Roth(esque) mural certainly has a place in automotive history!

What most people don't realize is how many cars BaT has to turn away for one reason or another. I'd guess twice as many cars are turned away as are accepted. Some are because they're too plain, some aren't nice enough, some we can't come to a reserve agreement on, some don't fit our viewership. There's also certain price segments that we get higher numbers of cars in. Those tend to be more competitive as far as what we choose to list - just the nature of the beast.

In the end, BaT just doesn't have the capacity to take everything that comes to us. I'd love to, and so would the team, but we have to make decisions that don't always seem logical from an outside perspective because of it. Granted, this is just my personal opinion, not the companies - as I said before, I don't have a hand in the selection process.

@Sonic - love the Z4M Coupe - one of the best designs ever IMO. Saw your car go live earlier, best of luck!
