They're around 10-12k now at 100k. So it's not far out of price with work needed.
Yea, I guess that's as expected per the mileage.
Head up, good luck with the spark plug change. I'd definitely recommend lifting/dropping the engine for that, I tried without doing so and it was a royal PITA. I'll probably take it into a shop for my next change.

"take it to the shop"
*checks bank account*
Yeah, looks like I'll be doing it myself.
Nice, I picked mine up on Saturday as well (excuse me for whoring it out a bit )
So between you, me, and Z31maniac that's a net gain of one Twin on the weekend
That's a damn good deal you got, most of the cars I was seeing under $10k seemed to have salvage titles. Hope you're enjoying yours as much as I am mine!

The spark plug change is really not that hard once you've done it. Undo two nuts, jack up engine, replace plugs. Not as easy as an inline four, but really not as awful as I feared.
The whole unequal length header thing is weird to me. The point of headers has always been to make the runners as close as possible to the same length. Seems like the tune would take care of the torque dip.

The UEL came about because of packaging requirements in the STi. After awhile many enthusiasts (myself included) came to enjoy the warbly/staccato sound to the exhaust, ie, it didn't sound like a fart canned Honda when opened up. So on something like the BRZ, guys want that sound and multiple companies make UEL headers for NA and FI applications.
And now in the STi world the popular thing to do is get rid of the UEL for performance.
The tune "helps" the tq dip, but doesn't eliminate it. A header + a tune and it's gone. A header + tune + E85 results in a nice big chunk of midrange on these cars and really makes them a lot more fun to drive on around town.

Is the E85 really a big deal? My car has the tune for it (obv its on 93 tune now) but the guy sold the flex fuel kit for it before I got it.

On a bone stock twin, E85 is worth 15-20whp and basically kills the tq dip on its own. A good header + E85/tune are the twins you see up near and over the 200whp mark.
When you datalog with something like an OFT, it's crazy the amount of advance running on E85. Like 40-45 BTDC. The power and throttle response shows it.
You can run E85, using an OFT, without a flex fuel kit, but you have to keep the OFT in the car at all times incase you need to switch tunes. But a FF kit is the better solution.

Ah, I see, the FF kit is for tracking the mix, right?
Correct. The FF kit allows to run any mix between 0-100% Ethanol, and it automatically adjusts the fuel flow and timing based on the %.
With the OFT, the STFT and LTFT will do some adjusting based on the mix, approx 65-90%.......but you want to keep an eye on both as there are acceptable ranges. So you need to know that your pumps are consistent. Some places they aren't, here in OK, they are mandated to be no less than 70% and my friends with gauges say regardless of vendor or time of year, are always 70-71% Ethanol.
The modern ECUs all learn the new targets and have different ways of determining max ignition advance and such.

e85 definitely makes a big difference. I heard a rumor that it was banned in autocross (ST* I think?) for this reason.

I didn't think E85 had been legal in SCCA, unless it was a flex fuel vehicle originally, for years?

I thought it was legal a few years ago. I remember thinking of getting into autocross at that time, but ended up doing HPDE's instead. Not 100% sure, though, since I stick mostly to track days.

I'm a clutch fork away from it being time to put it back together. So since I had nothing else to do, I pulled the stock clutch last night.
WTF. This has 105k miles. I actually feel bad replacing it.

I'm not a fan of black, but this car is a set of shocks away from being EXACTLY what I wanted.
I didn't realize that a set of shocks change car color.
