My tires are into the wear bars on my Kia Soul. Looking for recommendations for some generic appliance tire. Would favor winter grip over performance. Dont want to spend a ton of $ as I will probably only have this car another 1-1.5 years (depending on Ford's Maverick build schedule) - so something through Discount Tire with a manufacturer rebate seems to be the ideal option.
Size is 205/55-16
Thoughts?
General Altimax 365AW, toyo celcius, nokian WRG4 or verdstein quadtrac4
I have been running Falken 201s on my Prius fleet. A 65k rated tire that is not noisy. I have been very happy with their wear on the 4 sets I have owned.
I'm not gonna say it's a great winter tire but given my climate, I run real winter tires too; Altimax. Those are probably not right for your climate.
My other love of the 201s is they used to be $65 a piece through TireBuyer. These days, in the new world, they are more like $82 in Prius size.
TLDR: Falken good. TireBuyer good.
Also see their tab at top of page for deals/discounts. They offer a 10% discount to Military, First Responder, Govt workers, Teachers, etc
On a price buy...Over at TireRack they have a closeout offer in your size, Firestone Firehawk AS at $104 but then $80 rebate too taking them to $84 each, net and a a credit card offer to take them down to $76.5 each for 50k rated tires.
I have no Firestone love (or experience) but that gets you into Brand Name tires for less than No Name tires.

If im not buying a performance or AT tire i usually go with the Sumitomo Enhance or Hankook Kinergy.
I'm running them on all my work trucks, my son's Colorado, and my eldest runs them on his minivan.
When looking for a good tire and value, Falken, Hankook and General are my go to brands.
The Firehawk All Season seems like an ok option at this point I guess.
Sumitomo HTR Enhance LX2 $131 each
Hankook Kinergy ST H735 $113 each
Firehawk All Season: $80 each after mail in rebate
General Altimax RT43 $129 each
General Altimax 365AW $139 each
Continental Control Contact Tour A/S Plus $125.50 after mail in rebate
Nokian One is about 130. We have them on my wife's TL and they ride great so far.

If you're willing to spend in the low hundred range, stop thinking about it and just get the gold standard Conti dws06+. Currently around $130 each in your size after rebate.
I run the Altimax rt43 on my dd Highlander. They've handled just about everything I've thrown at them: snow, mud, dirt, ice, etc. They also provide decent road feel in all conditions. I'd recommend them and like them better than kinergy's I had before.

At those prices, I'd be tempted to try the Firestone. This site has a lot of Firehawk Indy 500 tire fans.
Falken ZE950's are a 45k mile rated tire and just $84 each, straight up, no waiting for rebate. I have not had that Falken but have liked other Falkens from that seller. If your only keeping the car for less than another year, the fast wearing 45k shouldn't be a real issue.

Love these, on my second set.

Any opinions on the Toyo Extensa A/S II vs the Celsius? Seems like the Celsius is an all season that is also good for winter use, but being in Florida, I can give up some of that winter performance. Size tires are 195/60/15 for my mom's Civic, and I really hate being tires in that size, options are kind of expensive and choices aren't as good (ie. no DWS06+)

Because of you I just completed my first Tirebuyer purchase. Two 205/45/17 Ironman AS Gen2 tires shipped to work for $158 all in. Ordered Monday, arrived today. Really good experience there.

This. I just put a set on my wife's Clarity. Are you going to care that it's an extra $30/tire when you stop 20' before the accident, or 20' after the accident? Cheap tires on a daily are usually false economy.
In reply to Tom Suddard :
Um, excuse me, tell that to my "Big O" tires! 780 treadwear. Wheelspin everywhere. Absolute deathtrap in the rain. Will not move whatsoever in the snow. But they been on the for like 25k since I bought the car and probably 40k+ before that. I wish the BRZ was 5x114 so I could toss the wheels from the Kia on it and give these a proper track day funeral.
But an extra $200 on tires? Eh, I'm 50/50 on that. There is obviously some threshold where I don't feel like paying any more. I'm not looking for garbage tires here. If the Firestone allseasons are pretty solid tires and they are $50/corner less, I'm willing to give them a shot. Especially on a car I hope to get rid of in less than a year. If I planned on keeping it longer enough to justify real tires, I'd just get snows for winter and decent tires for the other 3.75 seasons.
Alternatively if I could find cheap enough wheels (they seem to no longer be a thing post-covid), I'd just get some 17s and slap the spare all seasons from the BRZ on them. They are pretty much brand new.
In reply to ProDarwin :
Same for my "deathtrap tires". Wife has Goodyear Allseasons. They work well, she knows their limits and drives accordingly. I'm running Ironman AS on Rio. They aren't great at anything but they work. Anything short of dedicated snows this time of year will suck to some degree and I'm not having 3 sets of wheels for this car.
Well, seems some decent appliance worthy Goodyear all seasons are available from DTD for a $210 discount this weekend, so I believe I am going that route. It brings the price well below that of the Firestones.
Assurance Comfortread comes to $73/tire, Assurance All Season comes to $65/tire.
I honestly can't understand the difference. Comfortread is supposed to last longer and be quieter... but surely it sacrifices performance somewhere else for that?
In reply to ProDarwin :
The assurance all season is what we put on the wife's car last year. 12k mikes later they have no wear. They're ok at everything. Not really good at anything but not bad. Literally a great tire for an appliance.
Thanks. Going to try and lock that in tomorrow.
Well, forgot to bring my Discount Tire card with me, so I have to wait until Sunday. Looks like I can snag the Assurance All Seasons installed for just under $500 at checkout, then the $100 mail in rebate will get me back under $400. I guess that's a pretty respectable price for "decent" tires in 2022.
Its a shame wheels arent cheap anymore. The $100 off + not needing installation fees used to pretty much cut the price in half. If I could get new wheels for $200 more, I'd probably jump on that.
