So, I'm in Chattanooga on a business trip. I came across a car for a price I couldn't pass up. I'm going to have to rent a tow dolly to take it home.

If I understand the rules correctly, since I'm already up here on business and would have driven the trip anyway the gas doesn't count toward the budget. Also, if I'm correct, the cost of the tow dolly retal has to be counted into the budget since I'm using it to get the car home. (Correct me if I'm wrong on any of that.)

The question is, does the "shipping" cost get roled into the price of the car and therefore can be recouped or am I just out the cost of the rental in the budget?

Pretty sure shipping costs can be recovered. I don't think we've done that in our budget this year, but I've seen other budgets where that happened, IIRC.

You only have to count the dolly and you can count the shipping/transport in the total purchase price.

Thanks. That's what I was hoping. I got a good enough deal I should be able to recoup all of it.

1988 Acura Integra. From talking to the guy I think it just has an electrical short and he didn't know what to do with it. He's owned the car since 1989. As soon as I get a chance I'll post pictures to the link in my signature.
