Has anyone else cruised eBay for used nascar parts? Holy crap you can get some great deals on some parts. A set of Titanium exhaust valves for $35, Carrillo h beam rods (some listed as "super light weight so who knows what some are made of) for $100, I even found heads for $800 and inconel headers to go with them for a mere $300 more! Heck even just using some of the used an hoses, lots come with super aerospace style heat shielding. The list goes on! Now granted I know these parts have been used very hard but I'm sure for someone like me could still have some use? Heck even buying two sets of pistons and rods and using the best set would still be cheaper then one set of hyperuertic pistons.
Just day dreaming here wondering if this is the excuse I need to get a sbc.
holy balls, you weren't kidding!
So..... what's the catch?
ya had to post that didn't ya
like I needed that

I believe andy Nelson uses a similar tactic. (I know hes a dirt track swap meet aficionado, and dirt track is huge in his area). He goes 10s for 2 grand. Repeatedly. Has to be something to it.
Add an early flareside C10, an air bag suspension and you have my complete attention
Remember last year's race engines are junk to a race team.
I'm still looking for a killer deal on a NASCAR(ish) road race chassis to make my own NASCarlo.

Since Nascar stopped using the traditional SBC/ (& SB2) in 2007/08, the parts from the R07 engine won't work on a SBC. Quite a bit different engine. So make sure the parts will work before you buy them. Lower level roundy round stuff is still SBC, and can be quite the bargain.
I seriously had considered trying to use a set of the rods.
I thought you guys might like some of this stuff. Hopefully Andy will chime in, wheels777 right?

Good to know, I was going to cross check some of the measurements from the rods with a jegs catalog to figure out if they might transfer over but hadn't gotten around to it.
Tons of used rods on there. How do these relate to LS engines as we junk yard dogs wanna know about them?

You lie! It says right there in the name "STOCK car" racing, so it's got to fit.
It's all a big marketing scam, virtually nothing from those cars is anything we can buy at a dealership. It's sad how many people drink that KoolAid.

Had to go find that, do you have a build thread on it? Too neat, just wondering, would that rear end cost more or less than say a used built ford 9in or 8.8 whatever? I see it's a quick change type so I know it's not Apples to apples but just asking to go with the theme of the thread

Not my project but rather a friends who just happens to be crazier than I am. It would probably break your heart how little this cost.

There's a fair amount that could be found through a GM dealer if you find a parts guy that will dig through to GMPP catalog.
I've never had much luck finding this stuff, but yes, bargains are out there.
The pros need their stuff at 100% to win. The rest of us can get by just fine with 90% or less. How many of us are running 8500rpm for 500 miles? basiclly zero.

Unless you're driving a Rotary or S2000 =)

Honestly, they are only slightly less "stock" than anything you will see at any local 3/8 mile dirt oval anywhere in the country.. and the word "stock" is a throwback to the beginnings of that form of racing during the prohibition years.. custom built race cars were sprint cars, race cars built from production cars were stock cars..

Roush Racing has a combination store and warehouse in Mooresville NC that sells new parts as well as used or obsolete NASCAR parts. The inventory is not limited to just Ford parts as they have other inventory from the other race teams they sell on consignment. Some of the parts are brand new that has become obsolete other parts are used some very lightly. Most NASCAR teams don't take a chance on used engine parts at least those that are well heeled. You can walk around in there for hours if you have the time and those working there are helpful if you are looking for some exact part.
I think you could build a whole engine or car from individual parts found there. They also have whole engines and cars(rolling chassis)as well safety gear, pit road equipment, etc. Don't know if they have a website but I'm sure if you have a need for something you could give them a call and they could tell you what they have.
There is also another place in Mooresville called Second Chance Racing that does the same thing but not as big as Roush.
Some Dirt Late Model teams use old cup engines for years.
