Pretty sure this was covered not long ago but can't recall the answer.
Friend is selling his truck. Not a late model, more like 20+ years old.
Buyer is really interested but wants a report from some VIN reporting company and it has to be his suggested provider.
My advice to friends was to reply with "Send pics of your Mom" cause I assume it is a scam.
Anyone familiar with the details of this scam? Just the fee or is it fee and CC hijack?

Yeah, that's the basics. Fee and CC hijack. No point in continuing the discussion, especially if they already have the VIN to run it themselves.

And it's a big red flag to not sell to that buyer regardless of how he pays, as its (the payment) and his legitimacy is highly questionable.
Best case, buyer is just a pain in the ass.

It's kind of like the Facebook Marketplace 'buyers' that demand you to confirm your identity through some 3rd party website of their choosing.
