c4 corvette frame = street buggy?

so i got to thinking after seeing this picture in the c4 thread:

how good/bad of an idea would it be to make a street buggy type car out of a c4 frame? heres a rough draft of the tubing that would be added (im no roll cage expert so not sure if thats the safest way to run the cage but you get the idea): <img src="" />

im sure one would be able to pick up a c4 with some fiberglass damage for reasonably cheap, with a built 350 i think it would make for a pretty fun toy.

put the gremlin body (fiberglass raceweight) over c4 chassis and really screw with people?

i forgot about hot rod mag doing that, i always enjoyed the weight reduction time trials haha looking at that it seems like they ran into suspension issues with shedding all that weight so that would be a concern to think about

and it is suprisingly simular to the gremlin... weird

Simple solution, convert to coilovers. Then you can adjust the spring rate with a simple spring swap.

Is this an exovette or a ghettocette?

I've been thinking this would be a good idea for a locost/ghettocet for a while now with how cheap they are with a bad body.

I think its a great idea. That's why I'm building one right now. I picked up a C4 roller to fit a Kellison body to. It didn't have an engine in it and I was concerned about clearance for the Kellison hood. I went to craigs list and purchased a trashed but running C4 for $700. When I stripped it down it occurred to me that it would be cool to build a roll cage and drive it as is. Kind of a C4 Rat Rod, Exoskeleton, Locost all into one.

I looked at keeping the factory halo but didn't like the look. For mine I cut it off and then trimmed the windshield frame down. I like the speedster look.

I have a friend that owns a race car chassis business. I am meeting with him on Monday to build the cage. (The car is at his shop now) A powder coating shop is right next door. My idea was to set up a website and offer the cage for sale. This would not be to make a living from. Its for a hobby and for fun.

I'm thinking about names. ExoVette is a possibility. Or how about C4-Blast.

A few different configurations can be offered. From single roll bar to full cage.

Amazingly enough jmc14 does stuff but doesn't talk about it much. He's built some cool stuff that he mentions here and there. Meanwhile I talk about a lot and do just a little. ;-)

I will go ahead and start a build thread next week. So far I have just stripped the car down. That took most of a day. Next week will be the start of building the exoskeleton part.

I like working on projects. The fun for me is doing something different. But, lately I only work on them a little at a time. My health has not been good for the past few years. This winter I had 2 heart attacks. I'm just getting well enough to go to my shop.
