So I have to R&R the engine in my brothers 89 Corvette. Anyone have hints or tips on this? It's an automatic so I'm leaving the trans in the car.

Also, anyone got a good used L98?

They are a pain.  That huge hood makes it look like it would be easy.

No.

There is also a crossmember in front of the crank pulley that really restricts forward movement of the engine.  You will need to get the pulleys off the crank.

I think.  It's been quite a while.

Getting to the top bellhousing bolts sucked, even with my tiny hands. I found the whole car to be way more of a hassle to work on than it seems like it would be.

If you're using a traditional engine hoist get the car set up in such a way that you can remove/install the engine from the side.

Top bellhousing bolt is usually easiest to get off with some super long extensions, I've always pulled the transmission but I've only done manual transmission C4's. Pull the distributor, it's so close to the firewall it just gets in your way.

If you can't find a l98 the Gm zz4 crate engine is pretty close but slightly upgraded IMO.
