I have no experience with Corvettes, but I do have a 2011 128i with intake, 3 stage manifold, coilovers and exhaust. I absolutely love it. I've autocrossed it quite successfully but have not done an HPDE. Nonetheless, I imagine it would be super fun to do that.

The 4GFB might be a better platform overall than the C5. The front suspension is superior, and the torque arm rear really doesn't give up much to the C5's transverse leaf IRS. The 4G is lighter, has room for bigger tires, and has much more headspace for improvement in the transmission and rear axle areas without spending tens of thousands. Same brake issue as the C5 in that the stock brakes are all sliding calipers, except you can bolt 1G CTS-V 4 piston Brembos to the 4GFB which you can't do to the C5, so an affordable all-factory upgrade is available. Also, no ABS issues and you can still get 100% of the parts, unlike the C5.
Not to threadjack, but, I REALLY miss my 4th gen Formula. Between my current beater being difficult and you guys waxing poetic about C5's and 4GFB it's almost enough to start me searching for one again. Besides, GTOs and CTS-V's are stupid expensive right now. Just have to figure out who i'm going to pay to replace the spark plugs, as i'm not sure I can do those contortions anymore. Or i could just drop the k-member with the engine and transmission out the bottom.

Where you're at sounds like where I'd like to be with mine, if I were to stick with it. The potential feels like its definitely there, it just needs to be unlocked. Out of curiosity, what coilovers do you have?
Couple other things the sayers-of-nay will try to say to throw shade on the C5.
- TPMS and Active Suspension errors. These can be coded out with a Tech II as the Z06 didnt have a TPMS and the Z51 and Z06 didnt have active suspension. To know if a vehicle has active suspension, it will have a knob on the console by the shifter.
- Brakes. C5, C5 Z06 and Z51, and C6 (except Z51 and Z06) all use the same brakes, for better or for worse. Don't feel the need to move to a C6 for better brakes unless you go to a Z51. The price delta between a C5 and a C6Z51 will buy many sets of larger brakes.
- Impossibru clutch and transmission swaps. Not hard just unconventional.
- Get the vehicle in the air on truck jackstands.
- Take the lower part of the center console out and unscrew the shifter
- Take the rear wheels off.
- Take the rear calipers off and disconnect the e-brake cables
- Drop the midpipes
- Drop the tunnel plate
- Disconnect the shocks from the control arms
- Remove the bolts holding the torque tube to the bellhousing.
- Remove the 4 bolts holding the whole rear suspension, trans, and diff in one place. Pull it out with a transmission jack.

The car had TC Kline coilovers when we bought it. I don't love them (too much CJ rebound) but they're better than stock.
