It looks like hopefully my dealer has figured out how to order one. Good lord that was an ordeal. Still not in the system, but now they know that they can do it and how.
My in-laws were visiting and my wife mentioned ordering the car to her dad because she and I had discussed my inviting him to the museum to pick it up with me. She says he got all grumpy about expensive cars and what not. The same guy who has bought 6 new GM cars and trucks in the past 10 years. We'll see if he calms down about it enough to want to come. He and I really get along great so I would bet that he'll come around and have a good time.

He's probably pissed his SIL (you) is getting a sweeter rig than he is.
So I'm learning about this whole car buying stuff. When a dealer orders a car they are buying it from GM and selling it to you. Makes sense and usually not an issue. Where it's an issue is when you order something weird that they're worried they can't sell without heavy discounting if you flake and walk away from the car before you actually buy it. The Aerowagon conversion is apparently one of those weird options that they don't want to get stuck with. To convince them to order the car I need to pay for the conversion in full. Its not a huge deal since I was going to do that anyway when its all said and done, but the dynamics of the situation are interesting.
So now I'm on order with the dealer, but the order with GM isn't actually in and who knows when the order with Callaway becomes official.
i don't get peoples obsession today with ugly wagons.

I feel the same way about convertibles. Luckily the world is big enough for all of us.

Hey, I have a wagon parked next to my convertible roadster!
As someone who has to haul stuff I don't get the US obsession with notchback sedans. If I'm going to have a fixed roof I want as much interior space as possible.
I also don't get the SUV obsession... why does a wagon body automatically mean jacked up AWD SUV?
I think the board obsession with sport wagons exists because there just aren't many to choose from.

You mean crossovers? Me either. Luckily we are talking about a bad ass corvette wagon in this thread.
I'm gonna live vicariously through you mazdeuce. I wanted the old C12
I like the sound of their Camaros, personally.

Thanks. I thought a lot about whether to post about this experience as it's quite a long way from the usual goings on around here. In the end I decided that this is something fun and exciting having to do with cars and that is really the whole point of the message board. I don't expect everyone to get it any more than everyone would get a twin engine escort or any of the other silliness that happens. In the end, we're all playing with cars.
So you're saying I need to start collecting them?
I would never think of telling you what to do...in public.

BTW, today is Reeves Callaway's birthday...give him a call, wish him the best and talk about the Aerowagon you are about to order.
Do not get?? Look of a Ferrari FF without the functionality.
In reply to poopshovel:
Just to be clear, I don't like the Shelby either. But even though I think the Vette looks a lot better, I still wouldn't pay extra money for that over a regular Vette.
Maybe this is more to the liking of the GRM crowd?
