After reading another post about the Fox Body being moved to CAM-T, It got me wondering about a CAM class for the Big Girls. Cars like Malaise-Era Monte Carlo, Big Thunderbirds, and old Police cars. Maybe a 3900 pound min and min. Wheelbase? What say you?

Came here to suggest CAM-B(oat)

Once, my local non-SCCA club had so many cars of this persuasion show up to an event that we considered establishing an off the cuff “Pro Boat” class for that event only.  (We regularly run a couple other open classes, “Pro S” for street tire and “Pro R” for race tire).

These types of cars are rarely competitive in normal classes anyway, so some of us thought it would be fun to let them compete against each other.  A couple of our rule-sticklers had a fit about this idea, unfortunately :(

Pay attention here folks! This is from a guy running an under-powered, under-tired, heavy, full-size pickup in CAM-T.

And I agree eleventy-billion times

it WAS underpowered. OK, for it's weight its still underpowered. It only weighs about 3700lbs and I got 275's on it!

The Fox CHASSIS (and 3rd gen Crammit) has been in CAM-T from the beginning. It’s the SN-95 Mustang and the 4th gen Crammit that have been moved to T this year that everyone’s talking about. And the purpose for CAM was pretty much bigol’ cars from the beginning, since they are supposed to be muscle cars, which tend to be rather large. But I’d be down. I could run the tow rig.

The Idea came up after our club had Several entries that all but one ran CAM. A Laguna S-3, A 60's Ford truck on a 2003+ Crown Vic Chassis, A newer CTS-V, and My F Street P71. Seems like with older barges being cheap to buy nd the CAM rules being what they are, It'll add entries. Who would love to see a 1972 Dodge Charger being Competitive at a Autox?

But wouldn't a new Mustang still win?

As long as we're talking about creating new classes, how about CAM-W (as in Wagon)?

In reply to Will :

Got to have a minimum wheelbase rule. Also thinking about full-size trucks competing in the class as well.

Humphrey is 100% down for CAM-H.

But it's completely unnecessary.

Or we could cut all the classes down to just one, the "have fun it's not for serious trophies" class. Maybe then people would bring more interesting cars than whatever they specced out to win their special street-prepared-modified class.

In reply to slowbird :

CAM sort of is that already from what I understand. The class has a pointy end but for the most part it's just where slightly abnormal street cars like my wagon. Rules are intentionally left open other than 200tw tires, interior, american, rear drive, and a fairly low minimum weight.

that was what CAM was SUPPOSED to be. I know this because I'm friends with the guy that came up with the original idea that Raleigh ran with. One class. Run what you brung. 1 sheet for rules. Don't be a dick was one of them. No title, no jacket. No mess, no fuss, just fun. Give the Goodguys and Optima cars a place to go play together on street tires. Then it got bastardized in typical SCCA fashion.

If you think it's good now, just wait till SCCA gets ahold of a new SMS class.... laugh

I no longer care. My concerns with National level competition died with STF and the Forte.

The inevitable end result of all this is that each particular car will wind up in its own class, further subdivided by build level.

Continually breaking the class structure down to a finer and finer fractal grain is NOT the answer.

CAM is very much still about fun. Competition is always going to be serious at a national level and that's ok. GM broke CAM-C and then went back and proved you can compete with a really heavy car in the ATS-V.

People who wanna bitch are going to do so no matter what.

CAM today isn't about those people. Ignore the noise inside and outside of the class.

i think I shall petition for a CAM Korean class. Because I want to modify my korean car and it won't be competitive in any class it gets put into so I should have my own. But because I like different things, we shall call it KAM. No suffixes to confuse people. And for when race car is broken I shall require a stock class for the wife's car, so we also going to need a KS for Korean Street.

OR, I just show up in whatever the berkeley I have, throw it into a class it's underprepped for and go make newbs cry and then show them how to catch up.

I like the idea of creating KS.

That will be perfect for my 16 yo and I to start out using a 2011 Elantra with an automatic and General Altimax R43 all seasons.

Although I wonder if the $150 set of drilled/slotted rotors and pads from Max brakes might move it out of KS....
