I'm thinking I'd like to do a matte black "wrap" on the top half of the Miata (more or or less...).
Scenario A:
Roughgly the width of the trunk across the "top" of the car, so the hood would be "wrapped" down the center, with a few inches of paint on either side.
Scencario B:
The entirety of the top of the car, so like the old BRE Datsun paint scheme.
Would the edges of the wrap start to fray or come up over time and washing the car?
Shouldn't. You're basically putting a big decal on the car.

I've said it before... dream killer.

I won’t come off washing if it’s a good quality wrap otherwise just about every dirt oval racing car nowadays would be completely screwed after a night of racing.

I think he's saying it shouldn't fray or come up - it's a giant vinyl sticker.

I think Keith was agreeing that it WILL work.
The dirt late model in my profile picture has a wrap and the only damage to the wrap occurs from other cars or walls lol. The clay and washing doesn’t hurt it.

Yup, I was answering the question about peeling on the seams I don't see a problem with a partial wrap. Heck, all wraps have seams.
I AM curious as to what's being envisioned, though.
As you can see on the late model the wrap doesn’t cover all of the side of the body. But the side is actually 3 different sheet metal panels. You have the front section, middle and the quarter panel.

I've got a partial wrap on the rallycross neon that's been on there for about a year I think? Maybe two? Not sure. Anyway, it hasn't started coming up from the transition points. It has shrunk a little bit in a couple places and I didn't have enough overlap between the sheets, and I didn't get it clean enough on the reverse side of the rear fascia so it came up a little there, but the rest of it is still fine.
The next time I do this, though, I will definitely get some of the 3M adhesion promoter or primer or whatever they call it.
This will be the 3rd year racing on this wrap on the late model. The previous car my friend had he ran the same wrap for 4 years.

Apparently I like interperative skills....
It's evolution orange, black top, has the Vitaloni Baby Turbo mirros (black) and I was thinking about getting the new 15x8 Dekagrams, which are black. However, the Dekagrams have no dish, and I like dish or lip on my wheels.
I think the "partial" width black on the top would look good with black wheels, but not with any other color. Not that big a fan of 6ULs on NBs (for some reason they look a little "meaner" on NAs), not sold on the S1s.
But, the Wideopen 15x8 full silvers might look good with the top the car in matte black.
Trying to visualize it all, decide on what to do. And while we're at it, let's all Visualize Whirled Peas.
What you want is something like this for the edges. Its not going to go anywhere if you use the activator.

Please be aware that removal is a pain on the edges and you will need to buff out the excess glue when you do the removal.
