It's time to upgrade our towing capacity for family camping and are looking at 2.7EB F-150's. I finally found an 2018 XLT at a good (for this market) price that actually has the seemingly rare 2.7L Payload Package i want on it... But also just found a 'hail damage' report for ~$6500 (Canadian apparently) in the Carfax from July of 2021. Apparently there was a MASSIVE hailstorm in Alberta that this seems likely to be the result of. I know there was some crazy damage in Calgary. The records for this truck all come from Lloydminster, but I haven't been able to find a good indication of what the hail was like there.

From the salesmans accounts and videos he sent, there is no remaining visible indication of the hail damage that he can see.

On the one hand, the hail damage should all have been to mostly superficial panels. That's also a pretty low repair value and most hail damage reports on these trucks are fixed with PDR, so it seems unlikely to have been heavily damaged.

On the other hand, I really have no idea what the actual damage was or how it was actually repaired. While the hood may be superficial, the roof is not so much. From what I know of aluminum, it doesn't perform particularly well after the first time being deformed.

What say you? Leverage for additional negotiation, or cut bait and hold out for whenever the next right truck at the right price comes along.

I owned a 2006 Porsche Cayman S with moderate hail damage for seven years.

The hail damage got me a loaded,  one owner, 17,000 mile car for $32 grand.

It was awesome.

If you can't see the damage, it's not there...

Or just very well camouflaged. I know you've seen a fender that looked great...until the gallon of Bondo and newspaper fell out of it.

Thanks for the perspectives. While not 'bad', especially by rust belt standards, it also has a lot more underbody corrosion than local trucks. If not for these two issues, it would be a solidly good deal. But they take a bit of that value away. Ultimately we're not in any particular hurry. So unless they know the price down a good chunk, we're probably going to be picky and keep looking for the next deal.

So I guess the answer for me is turning into a little of column a, and a little of column b.
