I remember that several other people on here researched Evo Xs and the consensus appeared to be that at least the twin clutch ones are horrendously expensive to maintain.
What does the peanut gallery say about the "lowly" GSR? I know about the $3k service interval on those which might be a bit of a pain in the rear end as the nearest Mitsu dealer is a few hours away, but are does anybody know if there are any other expensive gotchas?
Background is that it looks like we're postponing the 996TT acquisition until I have more "car cash" piled up. However I'm being pulled into two many directions by trying to build the Miata, keep the CRX and the BMW alive (especially the BMW for bad weather DD duty) and something's got to give. I either end up paying more money for people to try and fix up my heaps or I take a bit of a time out on the crap can front.
The Mitsu appears to be the only car I can find that satisfies the parameters I'm currently looking for (AWD performance-ish car with "cheap" manufacturer-sponsored lease deal for a max of 24 months) and it looks like the lease deal is cheap enough to allow me to add to the P-car pile at almost the same rate.

Thanks, looks like my search-fu is lacking this morning.

Lease deal takes away all of the maintenance/warranty concerns. Why not do it?
If I didnt get Ford Z plan I would buy an EVO in a heartbeat!
That was kinda the idea - pay for servicing and tires, car is under warranty and it's someone else's problem.
As to the "why not do it" - it's been years since I had any sort of car payment, plus the wife isn't too fond of the looks of the Evo. You know she's not pleased when the main comment is something along the lines of "well, it's your car, you have to drive it".
My brother (who was looking at a new Evo) ended up with the Charger R/T with road and track package, for what it's worth.
Well, the only semi-practical option for me would be the AWD Charger as the car will mostly be a "cold season" vehicle with only fairly mild use over the summer. That said, they don't seem to be much more expensive to lease than an Evo and I have a dealer in town. Not sure I can live with the looks for two years but then again the Evo also has looks that only a Manga addict can appreciate...

Not sure I'd buy a car from a manufacturer that's swirling the drain. They're great performance cars, but are fragile and kinda suck as daily drivers. They're harsh and have the smallest trunk that I've seen in a modern car that wasn't a purpose built two seater.
I had a long discussion with SWMBO about this and we ended up deciding that we were going to buy rather than lease. What made us lean this way is that at least when we buy a car (even with some finance) we can sell the car if we absolutely have to, whereas we'd be stuck with a lease for the term of it.
Of course that doesn't solve the problem that the cars we like don't have AWD and the ones that have AWD we don't like .
Looks like we're shopping for something nice and sporty, plus get a beater-ish SUV for the few weeks a nice car doesn't belong on the road.
Get a nicer SUV for now and save your money for the car you really want, the 996TT.
In terms of a daily driver I'd choose the hatchback STI over the Evo X in a heartbeat. The STI is so much more versatile as far as hauling stuff since it's a hatchback, plus the resale values are insanely high.
