Hi Guys,
I need to make a decision on a new vehicle for the wife, thought I ask on the board as I’m not too familiar with one of the brands.
This car will be used as the primary family car, driven by my wife to haul around our 2 year old (possibly a second in the near future) and our golden retriever. We’ve got two candidates: Certified Pre-Owned Range Rover Sport or a new Volvo XC90.
For the CPO Range Rover Sport, we’re looking at a 2016-ish HSE, the CPO warranty covers it for 7 years/100K Miles. Which means we’ll have about 4 years of coverage. We’re coming from a Discovery Sport so it’s familiar. Test drove one and it feels really safe.
For the Volvo, the new car warranty is about 4 years / 50K miles + 3 year free maintenance.. It looks okay, not too thrilled with it being a twin-charged 4-cylinder, but it’s got a lot of good reviews. I’ve never owned a Volvo nor considered one until now so really in the dark about the brand.
All in all, I think they are about equal when it comes to cost and warranty coverage.
In my mind, the list of priorities are: Safety > Comfort > Upkeep > Smile Factor.
Wife’s list of priorities: Smile Factor = Safety > Comfort
Please free to throw in your two-cents!
If you have suggestions/tips on dealer negotiations please throw them in there as well. The new cars in my life have always been bought with some kind of corporate discount, not so lucky this time around ☹
Thanks Guys!!!!
