What are some good modern documentaries out there about cars?
I enjoy documentaries and I'm interested mainly in some that revolve around racing
I've seen Truth in 24 and The Underdogs (streetfire.net) and loved them!

Dust to Glory .... (imdb linky ) ... Doc about the Baja 1000, best camera work ever!
I think Oldsaw posted this one a few weeks ago. It was pretty darn good. It's about the Trans Am 510 effort.

Another good one is From Dust to Glory. Excellent film.

It's an hour-and-a-half documentary on rallying - both epic and awesome!
There's a good documentary about the Audi Quattro. It follows the development, domination in Rally, Domination in SCCA Trans Am, then DTM. I have it on VHS. If it's not on YouTube I may have to add it.
I'm not sure that it's actually considered a documentary, but Love the Beast is a good car movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1284028/ You can watch it online at hulu.com.
Love the Beast is great, but it's more a documentary about the sickness of being a "car guy" than the cars themselves. Still, one of the best things I've seen recently.
Both can be seen on HD Theater. I wish all documentarys showed racing like they do in Shaken and Stirred-No over the top dramatic voice over! just racing and in car noises...bliss.
If you can find the Victory By Design series, they are pretty great.
Both love the beast and dust to glory are must sees also.
There was a documentary about the building / design / development of the Cobra Daytona Coupe that aired recently. I think it was called "America's Most Important Racecar" or something like that. It was good, with plenty of interviews with Pete Brock / Bondurant, etc.
Not a movie, but something I was turned onto here on this forum just a week or two ago.
"An MG is Born"
A fun watch for car geeks! 9 episodes. Available online (search "streetfire an mg is born"). Good stuff.

This! If Ken Burns made a car documentary, it'd be this.
"Offering to the gods of speed" is a good one about Burt Munro. Land speed motorcycles, but still good.
Thanks guys! a lot of these were on netflix for instant view. I also found some other ones on there about motorcross. Once I watch them I'll post it up if they are any good

When I saw that posted here, I sat down and watched the whole series. :) He also did one where he restored an E-type Jaguar that was good, and I'm mostly through the series on the custom Land Rover he built. Why can't the car shows in the US be like that one? No drama or fake deadlines or product placements.

This has been in my cue for a week or so now. I just started watching it last night. Very nice. Commentary is rather amature but the camera work is top level. The bit about the silt has some amazing camera work!!!
I watched this one on netflix: Once Upon a Wheel from 1971. Not bad.
Who Killed The Electric Car?
a documentary about the rise and fall of GM's EV1 fully electric car. Its concept, interviews with people and celebrities who were leased one, and the politics that killed it.
I wanna make one about monster trucks, cause that's kinda my thing and something that has been ignored as a whole by most media, except those putting it on television.
If you make it about Grave Digger, I'd watch. Dennis Anderson would be perfect. The fans keep that truck running.
I haven't watched it, but the current issue of Rod and Custom is promoting Deuce of Spades
Lotus Elise Inside Story ... kinda old, but there's some gold in the scenes where the lawyer, the designer, and the engineer meet up and play almost stereotypical roles.

The thing about Digger is that that is Monster Jam's baby, and they've pretty much got that covered in the 25th Anniversary DVD. Its pretty good, you should check it out.
You know that Digger is owned and copyrighted by Monster Jam, right?
My idea was more of following a few trucks on tour, the big names, the no names, the sponsored, the part timers, and showing the broad spectrum of just how different everyone runs.

The rally documentary has been taken down. I only got to watch half of it.
