Mercedes A45 AMG, CLA45 AMG, GLA45 AMG all have a 355 hp, 2.0 liter engine with 26.1 lbs of boost, making it supposedly the highest specific output 4-cyl production engine.

More importantly, by far, is that it sounds like this:

Is that an AMG press meet, because that sure is a short course!

Great thread.

Top fuelies are pure engineering/physics porn. Crazy stats about those things.

Control arm suspension Honda Civics have a lot of suspension travel, and more in the front than the rear. 18cm in the rear and 21cm in the front.

I assume it is, or at least a brand affiliated event, (like the Land Rover Experience) what with the Facebook sticker on the back bumper, the numbers, and the huge AMG decals on the side, and the number of cameras around. It seemed to be the best video for capturing the sound under load. Actually, the car looks to have a cage, so it's probably the latter.

Chevrolet offers a dealer installed "Holden Exterior Badge Kit" for the SS. This seems like the single oddest accessory I've ever seen. They actually sell you badges from another brand to replace your Chevy badges.

Hotlink from the Chevy site:

I'm thinking that that wouldn't even be legal in PA. There's a rule in the Vehicle Code about disguising your vehicle to make it look like another.

And most states have headlight-height laws that are broken by a lot of newer trucks.

I remember a story about a guy who owned a new GTO who kept getting pulled over for illegal taillights. I forget what happened with that.

FD guys get pulled over sometimes for tinted tails. I remember one guy had to bring a factory brochure to court to get out of a ticket.

I'm still shocked that Mazda sold around 8 Mazda RX-8s the last year they produced them for the U.S.

The ND Miata has a 2.87:1 final drive, and the transmission does not have an overdrive, it has a super close 3-4-5-6 with a pair of granny gears on the bottom.

1st 5.087

2nd 2.991

3rd 2.035

4th 1.594

5th 1.286

6th 1.000

So, does the engine have the same bellhousing pattern as the older MZR/Duratec engines? I'm thinking that would be an awesome trans if you removed 1st and 2nd gear. That 3-6 spread is closer than a Muncie M22!

In reply to Knurled:

That is pretty neat. I wonder if they did that as a 1:1 ratio should be more efficient than overdrive, right?

One of the factory options for the old willy's jeep was a live pto shaft sticking out of the rear, just like a tractor.

In reply to singleslammer:

That is also my assumption. The trans will have no geartrain losses, just frictional losses, and a tall final drive is slightly less lossy than a short one. The only downside to Mazda's strategy is the transmission would have a very low torque rating because of that 5:1 first gear.

BMW E36 and E46 5 speed manuals used 1:1 5th gears as well, the 6 speeds added an overdrive. I do believe it's for efficiency.
