Over the years I've received a few awards and I always have my favorite and worst. The worst is a SCCA trophy for being a member for 25 years. It should say thanks for paying your dues on time and congratulations for still being alive, keep the dues coming! I've had a few favorites over the years, but now, thanks to the GRM Challenge I feel I have reached and achieved all of my goals in life (get lost kids...). So, here it is, as given to me Friday night at the Challenge.

That might be a fun one to explain to the relatives when they see it hanging on the wall...

Mike, you're very definitely one of the guys who has made the Challenge what it is today. The fact that we can recognize and respect you while simultaneously busting your clownballs and you appreciate the spirit in which it was done is a large part of that.

Holmes needed Moriarty, Batman needed the Joker and Quint needed Jaws. It just wouldn't be as fun without you.

[Quint] Nice picture. Don't know what the clown will do with it. Might eat it. [/Quint]

Are clownballs large, red, and made of foam?

Guido and I discussed his new public persona. He mentioned that now complete strangers flick him off at BMW meets.

The only other time I saw that was when Dick Cheney visited New Orleans a few years ago.

Yeah, I'd say Guido took the point.

Guilty as charged. I kept looking at that and thinking, "Man, that's creepy." Then somehow I thought of the clown.

I wanted to clear it with you first, but I didn't know what J.G. was going to actually do with it (he makes the trophies), so... forgive me. I swear, I'll keep the next one (fingers crossed).

I'm not good at math, but am I right to add "that's creepy" and "thought of the clown" together?

I feel bad for asking, but who is in the picture, and what does the signature say?

My first thought was that it looks like Ray Liotta in Goodfellas, but that's not what the signature says... is it?

It is Bob Costas, The plaque says "Berkeley you, clown"

The signature says, "With best wishes!"

Someone on the board (John Brown?) purchased it for Margie, after her infuriation at him being a commentator at the Olympics.

Um, yeah. I can only believe that the "Naked Clown Calendar 2009" that arrived anonymously in the mail today was your doing, Guido?

Most people would've settled for a thank-you card. You're one sick clown.

As much as I'd like to see more scorn and derision heaped upon the clown for that, I have to confess that I sent it.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to send to Tom instead though. Maybe with a print from Guido's website of his poster and a mounted ATV differential, with a note saying something smug and annoying (you know, Guido-ish) and sign it, "Love Guido, see you next year!"

In the end though, I didn't want poor Tom to do something drastic like go and kill the clown or have an aneurism or start screaming like Costanza "Serenity Now!" Instead, I had it sent to Margie since she gave up her Costas print.

at least the proceeds went to MS research....

Wow! See the crap I have to put up with. Just because it has clowns on it, it had to have come from me?!? I don't get it. It's amazing how many things I get blamed for. Although that would have been great for the "Worst attempt to bribe a judge". As far as Tom, he wouldn't have been able to figure it out, he's got that Palin mindset. Thanks for fessing up so quick, I would have loved to see the look on Margie's face when she opened it I'm sure the Photoshoping will begin....

Yeah, mindset. Is that what they call it nowadays?

Silly clown, I'm supposed to keep my special relationship with the VP from the VIP room hush-hush for a while. Now you've probably blown her chances.

At least we won't have to deal with that clown at the West Coast Challenge.

Oh and Guido, I think you'll find that you get as good as you give. Perhaps you should drop the "victim" act.
