I've always had an issue with my Civic Hybrid ('09) not generating heat in the winter for a long time. I have to drive for 15 minutes before it even gets warm. Even after it's up to operating temp, driving down a hill (coasting) will cool the engine by 3-4 dots on the gauge, and the heater will start to blow cool air.

I've checked for a stuck stat before, and it doesn't seem to be stuck open. I put in a grill blocker and that helped.

It's time for the 270k km coolant change, and I was thinking that'd be a good time to change the 'stat as well. I noticed that the stock one is 180F, but there's a 195F one available.

Should I mess with things and put in the 195, or trust that Honda knows what they're doing and keep the 180?

TL;DR Civic Hybrid with poor heat. Stat does not appear stuck open. Replacing it anyway. Stock 180 or aftermarket 195°?

Good idea to freshen it because when they get old and stick "closed" you have a problem, but I'm no help with the heat rating.

195 is good, also take the heater hoses off, flush out the coolant, pour some CLR in the core and let it sit for an hour or so. Continue with your regular flush then.

Even regular Civics take forever to warm up. I can't imagine a hybrid would be better.
