If you do skin the hood make sure you use some large washers around the pins. We did this to a challenge vehicle and the hood moves around a lot during a drag pass and tries to leave. I've also seen another challenge car loose there shinned hood during the drags.
Another down side is a skinned hood can't take much snow load during winter.
