I wore my M rated helmet at the TNIA event I was at in November. Did something change in 2021? That would be relevant info for me.

If your head impacts how well it fits is going to matter.

While the fit & finish of my Zamp helmet isn't as good as my Arai it does fit properly. I only wore Arai helmets when I road raced motorcycles; before I started racing I'd crashed on the road numerous times (road like an idiot) and from personal experience the better fitting helmets make a big difference on how sore your head and neck are.the next day.

If you don't know what helmet fits your head shape, you need to go to a shop and try them on. Buy the one that fits best.

Another thing to remember with regards to helmets is that thing that connects what they protect, your head, to your body. The lighter the weight the less force put upon your neck when a sudden stop or change of direction occurs. There's more to factor in the cranium protection. Inertia sucks.

My head fits great in Arai and HJC, have used both for years racing motorcycles

I really only need a SA20XX for VIR, bummer

I spent 4 hours at OG Racing trying on helmets to ensure i got one that fit and felt comfortable. Those people there are amazing with the knowledge of each helmet and how to find the proper fit. I went with a Bell M.8 with a few extra shields for different conditions.

Also, for anybody doing anything in New Jersey, NJ State Police (who govern helmets at motorsports events, for whatever reason) will only accept current and ONE previous Snell rating, regardless of what the sanctioning body says.  So 2010 helmets are no good in NJ.

That sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons.

To a point. Is a $750 Arai going to protect my head better than a $150 HJC? No. You'll just be more comfortable,  and look $600 cooler while you eat E36 M3.

Yes, it's abosolutely better.

If you have a vehicle with a five+ point race harness, get a HANS device.

It doesnt fit.

It's too large.

THANKFULLY solo performance is AMAZING to work with.
Im going to order some other things from them just because they're such a rad company to deal with

I ordered a large because all of my helmets have been L, this one is just too loose (and, funny enough, I just read the piece in GRM about helmet fitment haha...though, Ive been wearing helmets all my life on 2 wheels)

They're getting it swapped out, Im shipping the L sized back tomorrow

Just because one model of helmet meets the MINIMUM for Snell approval, doesn't prevent others from exceeding it.

How they test   https://smf.org/testing

Nobody is exceeds the rating in any meaningful way.  They'd just be throwing money away.  Note that no one actually advertises that they exceed the standard and in what way.

Don't skimp on the spec, go for SA2020 if you can, it would have to be a screamin' deal for me to consider SA2015 for a new helmet these days. Just did an autocross where that was the minimum spec accepted!

We'll just have to agree to disagree.  Do you have any references to back up your statement?

For the record, the new helmet fit great and I had a blast at VIR.

Very premature, but my HANS mounts came in the mail today. Got them off of here from a member

I would not buy a helmet sight unseen (head unfitted?).

I have a GForce because it was $30 cheaper than an equivalent Simpson, and I bought without proper fitting.  Turns out, I have a Simpson shaped head, the GForce is far too wide for me.  The Simpson fit like a headsock with straps.

At least GForce made an open face SA helmet.
