I'm considering replacing my trusty but old Dakota Quad Cab with a new Colorado Crew Cab. I really can't go full size given where I live and where I have to park for work, so my options are somewhat limited.

I know GRM has a Colorado that they seem to like but looking for any other input or details. I'd be using it for commuting to work and towing roughly 4000 lbs, sometimes over long distances with a bed full of tools and tired

Thanks everyone!

Pat

I know they aren't new but Toyman just added some older Colorados to his work fleet. Paging Toyman to the white courtesy phone

I picked up two of them about a month ago and have been very happy with them. Both trucks are pretty basic with the 3.5 I5. I've put about 3000 miles on the one I drive. My only issues so far are a bad blower resister and plug. I've averaging about 20 mpg mixed driving. I pulled my 16' trailer last week loaded with 1500# of scrap and it actually towes better than my E150 did. The 3.5 has a much better torque curve than the 4.2 in the van, and the truck is 1000# lighter.

Here's the thread I started on them.

Ended up pulling the trigger on a new one...crew cab/long box. Super nice truck. Much more impressive than either the Nissan or the Toyota in my opinion. I love it.

3.6 gas? I've been watching a lot of the review videos on Youtube and it seems like a neat vehicle. I just wish it was smaller!

Everybody says this, but I parked my 97 Explorer (the last ranger-esque bodystyle) next to a new Colorado and there wasn't THAT much difference. Yes, it was a little larger, but not much. Compared to a regular cab, short bed Toyota 4 banger from 1990, yeah, I guess it IS a lot larger, but it gets close to the same mileage and is more capable in every way.

I haven't owned any but I had a customer at the shop that used one for his work truck and put on ton of miles. The only repair it ever needed was a leaking seal at the trans output. I've only ever heard good things and I think the new ones are super sharp.

the latest iteration doesn't share anything with the previous one does it?

New Coloraydo's are reportedy wonderful "little" trucks. That said...the fully redesigned small truck reigning champion, the Tacoma just came out. Cross shopping the two is mandatory.

Nope. It was designed overseas, so realistically it was designed to compete in other markets before it was sold here.

I read somewhere that the early ones had alot in common with the old H3 Hummers.

The H3 was on the Colorado frame. Same engine.

The h3 shared the colorado/failblazer platform. There miserable tanks to work on.

Yes, 3.6 gas.

Size wise, I find the truck somewhat deceptive. It is big, but it doesn't feel big driving it. A short box crew cab is very close dimension wise to my '01 Dakota quad. I elected to go with the longer bed, which does make it a bit more cozy in my parking garage at work, but it's still very manageable.
