I have a '77 Chevy C-20 in my barn, half restored. I was in the middle of it when we moved, and at the time the new house didn't have a shop to work in. Anyways, it's a pretty cool truck, with a lot of obscure options and a factory 454 engine (I think a wopping 245hp!!!). I bought it in 1988, and because of the things I did with it, it has great sentimental value to me, so I'll probably never sell it, and I WILL finish it. But I NEVER thought it would be worth anything. But the older I get the more it become apparent that even the 70's cars and trucks will go up in value at some point. Look at mid to late 70's Trans Am's, they're already getting up there, and they weren't the greatest cars.
It will never really matter to me, but given that it is pretty cheap to restore, it's nice to know that my truck will someday likely go up in value at least enough to feel good about owning it.

Well, you do know that when I say worth, it's very relative. But it sure seems as if '70's trucks that are good enough to use are worth more than '80's trucks in similar condition- just due to the few people who are starting to work on them.
Seems that right now, the cheapest trucks are from the 80's.
Now, if Civic WANT's a 70's truck, that's a different story. be aware that you may pay a small premium for a good 40 year old vehicle over a better condition 30 year old vehicle.

So the 80's truck will go for about $500, but you'll have to pay a lot more for a 70's truck, like $550, right?![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)

I would really like a seventh generation Ford F-series because I have fond memories of them from my childhood. I may end up getting a newer truck and later getting an older truck to fix up some.
I still have an '82 Ram sitting in the yard. I'm not sure if the frame is still good, as it is sitting on the flood plain.![](/media/img/icons/smilies/whatthe-18.png)
berkeley it. I like Ford more. Buy a Ford. I hope this advice has been helpful.

how would one of them do with 4500 pounds of scrap iron in the back or 10,000 pounds of trailer behind it?

I like both, but currently have a dodge and 7 square body Chevy's (if you count the Suburbans). I don't know what happened and did not plan to have so many....they just seem to find me. Last Ford I had was a 99 3/4 diesel 4x4. It was a great truck, but I prefer a dually for towing which is why I sold it.
You really can't go wrong with any of the old stuff if you want a good solid truck.
Now the oldest truck I have is a 47 Chevy 2 ton and the newest is a 95 Dodge dually. My favorite, and the one I drive the most, is an 89 Suburban 4wd. Good luck with the search!
