I've been around for a little while under the name "LeigerReign" but changed it when I started working for the magazine. I figured "Matt_Smith" was a tad more professional than my grade school gamer tag.

F-150 with a 300 6 cyl. Pretty good gas mileage for a full size, great for hauling parts. A bench seat can seat four (if they like each other). And you can make beer money helping classmates move their stuff.

Or just bump it up to a 302 and waste a little more gas and have a little more power. Help your friends drag their broken ass cars off the highway like me.

From one college kid to another:

Miata! (That is what I did)
E30 (did that for a while too)
E36 (probably easier to get at your price point nowadays)

I keep coming back to the Civic and CRX idea's even though I don't like FWD. I also keep coming back to an El Camino, Subaru Brat, or VW rabbit pickup. I think that next year when I graduate, I will need to pick up a pickup, minivan, van, or SUV of some sort. So I'll second the pickup idea.

1st gen RX-7. I have one and since we picked up that Mustang I am sure Debbie would love for it to be gone.

My college car was a bicycle. Then it was a free Ford Aspire...

I don't have any useful ideas right now, but i require more info on that VR4. That is a big nasty intercooler, my friend.

Details will be up soon. Some pretty cool things happening soon (cage, rebuilding the engine, updating the fuel system, tubular subframes, etc...)

First off, welcome! If you want to keep it in the family, you could also go the route I did. 3kgt + Galant VR-4 for a DD. Unfortunately you're going to have to wait for a heck of a bargain or buy a real hard luck case if $1000 is your budget cap.

I LOVE me some Galant VR-4, but I just can't find one for the right price.
