Chrysler/Fiat delay?

So, how do you think this will go down?

Some people are determined to cut off their nose to spite their face.

I see their point and that deadline works in their favor to get a more favorable settlement.

I also seeing Bertollicorp sayi "Aye... Fokka you!"

While I like the idea of Fiatsler or Chrysiat or whatever, I have read a lot of articles about how this sale steps all over the "grey" zone in bankrupcy law. Im not sure which way I stand because I dont know all the rules, but Im sure theres good arguments both ways and Im looking forward to watching it play out.

Didn't GM once try to buy into Fiat? I'll bet this kind of thinking was what stopped the deal.

It's 'Frysler' or 'Criat', we ain't sure which.

More than just buy into it- Fiat and GM did a stock swap- 2B trade. It was a pretty significant part of Fiat.

Went a long for quite a while- the whole Kappa platform was part of it (I would bet that the solstace/sky plant would make some Fiats and other Opels).

But GM figured that Fiat wasn't worth it, started to balk, and Fiat forced GM to pay them off via a one time $2B payoff. Thus ending the deal.

Now, besides Fiat going after Chrysler, they are also attepting to make a deal on Opel. That was a rather fast turn around, if you ask me.... (smells fishy for this industry)

Sounds like Fiat is getting ready to overextend themselves, IMHO. IIRC, they have had financial problems of their own prior to all this.

Alfadriver: I think Magna Auto Parts of Canada is lined up to get Opel/Vauxhall. Fiat was interested in them, but Germany felt something was amiss.

The latest fairly reliable news from inside Fiat tells me we are to get 500's in 2011. It will be the only 'pure' Fiat sold here. The others will be rebodied or rebadged as Chrysler products. Assuming the whole deal doesn't get mucked up before then.

should be just in time for me to consider a brand new car too....

Will our version have 7/8ths the power and weigh 7/8ths more?
