OK, tomarrow I will be changing the front brakes on my GF's '97 Civic LX sedan. I already have the new pads, rotors, Pad clips, and anti-squeil(sp?) red stuff. What I'm wondering is there anything specific to look out for? IIRC, my Accord needed the Caliper mounting braket removed to change the rotors. Will I encounter this or any other quirky bits of fun I should know about before hand? Thanks in advance.

This might go for most cars, but I've always heard to use an impact driver to remove the rotors, because the screw is always seized and the phillips head always strips out when using a regular screwdriver.
I'm far from a brake expert, though...
Yes. You will have to use an impact driver to get the rotor screws out. My '98 'Lude had them and my '02 Si has them. There is nothing in particular other than that.
Oookay then, guesse i was spoiled on my stupidly easy neon brake jobs.
try changing the front rotors on a 1991 Crown Vic...easy peasy rice and cheasy....then I went to a 1993 fox mustang....Integrated wheel bearings? REALLY FORD?
Impact driver FTW for those little bastard screws.
It's a simple job though. Remove Calipers with Brackets - 2 bolts. Remove bastard screws. Remove rotor. Install new one. Replace bastard screws, but use anti-seeze on them. Replace caliper.
Good time to flush fluid while you're in there.
last person toswap the rotors skiped the bastard screws.
Now, does it matter what side the pad with the fealer tab goes on? inboard/out board?
And the slidders are STUCK. the hub and brakes are covered in a plastic bag and it is starting to rain. Looks like at best another drive to the parts store or at worst just put the bad brakes back on and tell her to take it to a shop
IIRC, feelers go on the inside. Copy whatever is already there.
As for the stuck slider, I've never seen that. Sounds like a job for some WD-40 and elbow grease.
Normal, PB Blaster & hammer & or pry bar to get them loose. If they're not too pitted clean them up, lube with Silglyde, or Antiseize. I f they're too far gone the Honda dealer probaly has a kit.
BIG HAMMER for the win!!!!! Down side, by the time I figured this one out the weather was getting too bad to finish it. I just hope I have time tomarrow to finish this up
The little squealers go on the inside. As the rotor spins forward, the rotor should pass the squealer before it spins past the pad.
