Classic Contest

I saw this little contest when I was at the PVGP a few weeks ago.

Several folks on another site mentioned that it was sort of a “classic” race. By the way, the Pinto was a bit faster.

Hey Nial, Looks like you guys had a blast! The pigroast was a hit that weekend too, we had 235 people show up so we had a party too just of another kind! A Saab sonnet (holy COW batman!) and what was the green #113 that kind of looks like a sonnet (was that a series one sonnet?) If so what are the chances of seeing two in one spot! talk to you soon

Of all those racers, one of my favourites is still your battered old, green Sprite. And the red 356, which just looks perfect.

Glad the pig roast went well. 235 people! Wow! Wish we would have been free to stop by.

Anyway, yes the PVGP was great. We are planning on doing both weekends next year (with the A-35 Teapot, when it's done).

The green car is an Abarth Scorpion but it does remind one of the (yellow) SAAB Sonett. In fact, those two cars had a great time racing with each other at the event (see below). The Scorpion is based on the 850 FIAT with a keen coupe body. My car was bit faster than both of them, so I got some video passes of them.

We do have another Sonett in the club. It's a "roadster" (the owner chopped the roof off of it).

By the way, I got 909 up to a new "world record" for me in terms on speed. My on-board GPS recorded 101 MPH. Pretty good for a crappy 1500 Spridget.

That silver car is an extremely rare Elva Courier Coupe. I think they made only three of them. The rear window is "reverse slant" (like a Harry Potter Anglia). Unusual looking car but also very appealing (to me, at least). There is also a fastback Elva coupe that is more commmon. There was also about five "regular" Elvas at the PVGP event.

That 356 has the just the ~perfect~ amount of patina....it's wonderful. The owner is a plastic surgeon and I'm sure he could afford to make it "perfect", but I pretty sure he like's it just as is.

And thanks for your comment about my car. It's a battered, cheesy little thing, but I have a ball with it. In my view, the the 1500 Midget is the best entry-level car to get into vintage racing with. It's a surprisingly good car and since they're mostly unloved, they're cheap!
