So, i have two headliners for the challenge car. Material is in good shape on both, both are stained and dingy.

They are from dodge neon coupes. Light beige in color. Foam-ish backer board, theoretically original material.

How do i clean them? Want to clean them both and install the best one. Theres stains, smoke stains, and general sconge.

Subscribed for interest, the one in my beater work car is moldy-ish and generally a bit rank.  I almost painted over it because I couldn't find anything that could actually clean it worth anything.

I sold a Chevy Sonic recently that had been a smoker car. I got some good cleaning of the headliner with just a micro fiber towel and Liberal application of Tuff Stuff.

When I tried that,  shortly thereafter the headliner stated sagging and bagging.

Best suggest is strip the old stuff off, hit the backer with a quick run of 60 grit on your DA to strip off the bulk of the leftover foam, recover it with bulk headliner fabric from JoAnnes with some 3M Super 77 or similar adhesive.  Will be fresh!

My E28 had a bunch of weird headliner stains. They are very fragile so I just made a number of passes with a garment steamer and used towels to soak up any residual  moisture. It didn't aggressively clean the headliner but did a great job of freshening it up and blended all of the obvious stains in quite nicely.

1/4 cup vinegar, 3/4 cup warm water, tablespoon of dawn dish soap in a spray bottle

That was what SWMBO reccomended. She mixed it up, brought it to the shop, grabbed a microfiber towel,  and 20 minutes later had this:

Good enough! Like, almost perfect laying out of the car.
