cnn said: This is a high-performance version of the stock S2000 that is regarded as Honda's only true sports car
that part made me sick right there! there are other honda s-cars!!!!!!! xlr at #1? huh. the rest is more like an i guess. i mean its like yeah, but......
Yeah, the only one on that list that I even remotely agree with is the S2000 CR....
What about the viper? ZR1? GT-R? I am sure those will be more collectible than a crapillac, a solstice, a smart, and a dodge charger combined. (hurst Challenger? how many of those are they making? SL65AMG Black?)

To the average Joe, a sports car has to look like a sports car (something like a Corvette) or it's not a "true sports car"...and I guess the NSX doesn't look like a sport car

But the NSX isn't a Honda in the USA.
Mass production cars will probably not be "collectable."
XLR-V? Ok, sure
Lotus Exige S? Hmmm... maybe.
Audi S5? HELL no.
GT 500KR? Sure
Z06? Only because it's a Corvette.
Smart? No.
New STi? No.
S2000 CR? Yes
Kappa roadsters? HELL no.
"Super Bee"? Uhhhh, no.
I remember reading a future collectibles list from a source that was actually focused on cars and the 91-94 SE-R was on that list. Woot!

Pretty good analysis, but...
I don't think the XLR-V will end up being collectible. Even now people just look at them as a less-exciting Corvette, for white-haired guys.
Z06? I dunno. The problem with Corvettes is that they keep coming out with something later and greater. They're common on the scene, and the longer they stick around, the less nostalgia there will be for them.
I'll hold the ZR-1 as an exception.
Viper should be on this list.
M Coupe. I don't know about the M3.
Maybe the new Mini. The special edition that just came out in a limited release will be.
Look at what makes a colectible car today. Everyone loves old Mustangs, and the more rare the option package the more valuable it is today. I think the KR will be no exception.

Even SEEN a XLR, V or otherwise? I once saw a regular one. Rarity coupled with a certain "upscale cruiser Caddy 'Vette" look will probably make them collectable. I mean, the original GNX was just a Buick...

honestly if they put a good nose cone and wing on the charger then i would be all over it!

Yeah, I've seen a couple driving around. Maybe I'm just projecting my own ideas about cars but, I have zero desire for one.
That said: I never see them in the media. No one ever discusses how badass they are. No one seems interested in them.

Because who wants to buy a car that's basically a more expensive, less powerful version of a Corvette, if they can just buy a Vette?

I think it's not so much that it's more expensive and less powerful. I think it's that it's less raw.
A Corvette is a phallus compensating, flame spewing, tire melting, "berkeley you" raw sports car. You buy one to presumably be a badass. The XLR is too soft... too plush... it has a bit more sophistication and plushness than a Corvette (you know, because that's why you buy one) but completely lacks all of the "berkeley you" badass image.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Caddy Vette an automatic only car? I guess in our culture, manual = raw, which would validate your point.

Nothing about the Caddy says "Men envy me, and women want my cock," even in a deuchy way. Instead, it says, "Men envy my golf scores, and women... don't give a E36 M3."
I dunno. Maybe I'm just banking on the rarity and nameplate. I've also been around some Caddy guys that are just crazy about them.
Time will tell!
I don't think any modern cars will be collectable in the future. I know the mustang people are stupid crazy about buying special edition mustangs, I even saw one set of buyers sued Ford because they release more than 50 of a special edition model. The problem is they are making too many car and the larger the supply the less the valued, I'm not sure how the old mustangs can hold their values except in terms of nostalgia. With gas prices going where they are the best bets will be a fuel efficient sports car. The best collectors cars will be ones that are most often modded and driven to death to kill the supply. I also don't know how these modern cars will age, how do these computers work after 200,000miles of hard driving. Not to mention refurbishing all the plastics. I don't think new cars have a collectors future but hell if I know!
XLR-V? Um. No.
Lotus Exige S? Perhaps. . Audi S5? The Audi Solara? Sure. Whatever you say.
GT 500KR? Absolutely.
Z06? It's a vette. Duh.
Smart? No.
New STi? No.
S2000 CR? Doubt it. I'm guessing unmolested NSXs are already getting hard to find.
Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky? WRONG.
"Super Bee"? A 4-door that's uglier than the 300 over a berkeleying challenger? Don't think so.
<---(ponders how oster got his list to come out so nice.)

Double space where you want a line break.
Like that.
Here's one I thought about today - If Chrysler dies, the new Challenger will have had a production run of ~ 4 months.

Not surprisingly, I was thinking the exact same thing. Could be "MOPAR's 'Last muscle car.'"
