I once thought I could get by with an E30/E36 and a Jeep Cherokee, which is true but MORE is way more fun!
My current fleet:
'91 Miata w/ stock suspension for winter DD duty
'91 Miata (same as above) with FM suspension for summer DD duty and track flogging
'91 Miata (same as 1 and 2) with Harbor freight trailer for parts hauling
See, Miata is the answer.
Currently:
1991 Isuzu Trooper- dd, boat/ tractor hauler, moderate off-roading
1987 BMW 325is- Weekend/AutoX/Track car (soon with more roll bar, seats, harnesses, and subsequently turbo!)
Currently in my yard: (I'd say garage, but I'd be lying)
1) 2004 Derbi GPR 50 for fair weather daily driving
2) 1966 Impala for foul weather daily driving
3) 1998 Volvo V40 for the wife's driving
4) Mark I GT40 scratchbuild project. To keep me company in the garage.
One zippy sunny day scooter, one slow cruiser, one for the wife, and one "pursuit of happiness".
Back home:
1) 1987 Toyota 4x4, 22r. This thing has taken more abuse than the Topgear Hilux, and I still love it
2) 1978 CB750. Hope to finish the cafe build someday, but its been on the "back burner" for quite some time.
04 Acura MDX = family hauler, wife's DD, tow vehicle
04 IS300 = My DD
89 240SX = track rat, general hooning vehicle
No car that I can really use on the track (no HT for the 'vette, plus I promised the wife I wasn't going to track it) although I'm trying to fix this by attempting to purchase a working, non-crashed, not overpriced Miata or S2000. Not very successfully so far.
Diesel Excursion as DD and family truckster/tow vehicle. Runs on recycled veggie oil.
2011 Mustang GT as fun to drive car. Sometime track car.
1984 944 track car. Currently inop.
2010 Prius. Wife's car.
Would reconfigure this to be
Superduty pickup (diesel) for tow duty, or maybe just keep the Excursion
Luxobarge (something like an S500) as daily driver
Lotus 7 clone as track car (maybe Superlite Roadster)
Wife can keep Prius
Would probably get rid of the Mustang. Though I love it, it's too expensive to track and I don't use it enough otherwise. Not gonna make any changes right now.
my driveway actually pretty much has a good trio: '04 mini cooper S (mine, DD/corner carver/mountain bike hauler/solo roadtripper/general hooliganizing car), '94 Miata (stepdad's DD, my track/autoX rat), '08 Jeep Liberty (mom's DD/stuff hauler/mountain bike hauler when there's too many to fit the back of my Mini/tow rig for stepdad's motorcycles/ZAV/parts hauler/vehicle I learned to drive a manual transmission on), '76 Shovelhead (stepdad's motorcycle, 3rd owner since '78), '04 Sportster XLR1200 (dearly departed father's bike, due to improved reliability gets more use than the shovelhead)
