Has anybody used this site for vehicle history reports? Can't find any online reviews. Is this legit? I've got a Craiglist response that does not believe my CarFax report. Trying to figure out if this is a scam.

A lack of any positive comments from our GRM family will confirm my suspicions very soon. GRM is a great family!

According to ICANN, that site was created on 2016-03-28. Also, it's hosted by godaddy and registered through an anonymizing proxy.

Sounds like a scam to me.

If he does not believe CarFax, let him take up that issue with CarFax.
Not your problem. He wants you to think it's your problem but it's not.
I suspect scam.

I had someone want me to run the VIN on my Dakota on that site as well. His area code was for Phoenix Arizona, I'm in Atlanta. Told him no, he can run the VIN if he likes, but I'm not. Figured he was just trying to increase hits on that site. Never heard from him again.

I had a guy, from an area code 2000 miles away, asking me to get a VIN report from some website like that, too. I don't know what you're selling, but I was selling a 15 year old truck. I told the guy I wasn't putting my VIN in a website that was created three days ago. Never heard from him again.

Pretty sure the scam is to steal your CC info via the bogus "VIN Check," site.

I wonder what the scam is. The VIN is on CL or wherever, usually. The site must be trying to charge for "fixing your problem" or something once you hit it.

Man, the scams out here in the world. Between the PoPo robbing you blind, all the email scams, things are turning to E36 M3. Just did a required "course" for work. The latest scam is that you get an email that looks like it is from your CEO. Got his pic, name, email address (in outlook), the whole thing. He asks you to "check on this PO" that is a document loaded with virus, or asks you to "send 30,000 wire transfer to this account, I'll provide supporting documents later..." All scam.

Reading this thread again reminds me of one from last week with a bogus auction in Florida, the VIN was legit, but the car didn't exist, someone was interested in buying it from Germany. This is probably an easy way of phishing vin numbers to help create bogus auctions. Inventive, I'll give them that.

How exactly are the "PoPo" robbing people blind? I have not heard any reliable news sources claim police are robbing people, especially at any rate consistent with e-mail and other internet scams.

You can see my personal experience over in the American Shakedown thread. Asset forfeiture and straight up armed robbery are alive and well in the home of the (wirelessly)connected and easily offended.

Scam. Not sure if it's to get your credit card for fraud or to increase sales. Had a similar email thru a craigslist ad

Sorry HB. Don't think your news sources are complete. The PoPo stole more money from American citizens than robbers in one year. Read the article in the other thread. There are town in Texas that you just don't drive through. The PRC too, apparently.

I'm sorry, I forgot my foil hat. I'm sorry you guys are afraid to drive through some towns.

For something so common, you must be actively trying not find information about this. Texas California

Try a little experiment, put on out of state plates and drive the length of the Mexican border. Statistically speaking, you won't make it from one end to the other, period. In fact, I bet you don't make it through Tenaha, tx with your money or valuables in tact, but, what do facts and statistics prove?

Denying reality and ignoring problems won't make them go away. Unless your definition of a reliable news source is Fox news, in which case, I understand your denial and confusion. It's been shown regular Fox viewers are less informed than people who don't even watch the news, so I can understand your disbelief 2012 study

My only advice is to cooperate when it happens to you, particularly in California where trigger fingers are itchy enough by those with badges that gang bangers joke if you want to kill for a living, join chp or lapd.

What this has to do with a vin number scam is beyond me, but it may help to recover a "forfeited" vehicle down the road.

Edit: just saw you're from Ventura, California. Either you're trying to start an internet pissing match, or you've never once read a newspaper or watched any sort of local news at all

Floundering aside, my boss was selling a used car a while back and got a bunch of those types of responses so we did a little checking up on it. Apparently, they're primarily trying to fleece you out of your credit card number, expiry date, and CCV number.

The absolutely worst part about all that is that it apparently works enough to make it worth their time to do it.
