*laughs in Miata tire prices*
I have been searching for weeks to save money just because of price. 275/40R17 dont have many 200tw options. There is the falken 615k and 1 other i cant remember then the widely overlooked nitto NT05. Which is probably what ill go with considering its the cheapest of the options at 160/ tire, and they actually are very grippy.
When we tested NT05's back to back against the RE71 they were about 6 seconds a lap slower at gingerman, which I'm guessing is why they generally get overlooked these days.
Still a great feeling long lasting tire for track days, but fast relative to anything produced in this decade they are not.

maybe so. but i have had good experience with them in the past. sure they are slower than other well established brands but they are worlds better than not having a 200tw at all lol. ideally i would like to go with the falkens but the $160 price difference has me on the fence.
either way i have to make a decision today as the will get delivered the day before i leave and i will have to mount them that day.
I'm super happy with the Falkens for dual duty. My second set is just as good as the first. I know they aren't Re71s, but they work really well for HPDE and keep me just shy of top tier in autocross. I plan to have a spare set of wheels next season for autocross duty, and the Hoosierstones will be my choice. The Falkens will just be street and track.
Well i couldnt pull the trigger on the falkens. it was almost a $200 difference between those and the nittos and although the nittos may not offer equivalent handling. i know from experience they offer superb drag strip traction (although idk how the falkens do in that department) a trade off i can live with given the events of this competition.
