I was sitting around thinking about cars, something I don't often do, and two memories came to mind at about the same time. One was GRM's 330i project where they tried to mod the 330 to match the performance of an M3 for half the difference in cost. The other was part of an article I read many years ago about the performance of a Ferrari Mondial, and how (quoting as best I can recall) "a kid with a Z28 could smoke your $70,000 exotic."

Then a light bulb went off above my head and made me spill my drink.

What about taking a modded Sonic and putting it up against a modded Mini? Or a WRX against an Audi S4? An LS3 E36 against a Z06? Modify two somewhat similar cars for handling and power, keeping power levels about equal, and do a bang-for-the-buck test. Would the Sonic surprise us?

What cars would you like to see compared?

Head-to-head tests are challenging yet fun to do, and we have a few in the works.
