Truth be told i keep thinking that motorhomes are the ideal rat rod/ hot rod start. They all (usually, if that makes sense) have V8 engines, when you use your faithfull sawzsall you reveal a pretty basic, and i mean real basic chassis. The "cab" is usually a single pioece so you have a sorta kinda "hot rod" truck or similar body, although the van is a stretch....Granted you are left with dual real wheels at times but this soundwsa like a recipie for a hot rod...
Come to think of it, i have a motor home at my disposal. will i be the first GRM-ER TO do a GRM challenge motorhome/ asphault adventure/ dauily driver/ hot rod?
hmmmmm.... i feels that any of there ideas past 1:00Am are subjesct to more careful review once a proper breakfast is had..,.,
although a hot rod motorhome build still haunts me

I'm in the "No bathroom or kitchen - Why?" group. To me, the whole point of having an RV is the private shower and crapper. Even the kitchen is secondary to those.

Some friends of mine have a Brave and they recreated this scene in front of it for their Christmas Picture they sent out to everyone. Their Brave has the Dukes of Hazzard horn in it. That thing has the smallest turning circle you could imagine- short wheel base!
Shaking my head in sorrow and disbelief. Some things trancend ugly to become cool looking, but those Winnies? Ack.
This on the other hand is way way cool. Corvair based monoqoue RV

The Ultra Van is known in the Corvair circles as "Whales".

Hahaha. I had one just a couple years ago:
413 big block. used up 2 fuel filters per trip (with one usually going bad about 50 miles into the trip). Had the fuel tanks cleaned out and sealed but it didn't matter, still had crap in them. Got real good at swapping out the lower filter on the side of the interstate... And yeah, all the aerodynamics of a barn going down the road (with about the same structural integrity), still it was fun to camp in and it was a conversation starter at the campground with a lot of people never seeing one in person before. I had redone the inside with new wood floors, new dinette and remodeled bathroom.

My buddies hardly goes 65 mph with a tail wind.

All I see when I look at old RVs is danky interiors with horribly inefficient engines that get terrible gas mileage (ie expense).
I do enjoy the old BMW powered Vixen for that reason alone. An RV you can afford to drive.
Hoping for a 30mpg Sprinter in the coming years.

Right there with ya. Single digit fuel use is too demoralizing for me. I'd love one of the sprinter chassis setups but haven't got 80 large laying about. The only trouble with the vixen, was that I wanted to tow the rallycar and didn't think there would be enough decent oomph for that. Well, that and they're rare as hen's teeth. And still expensive as all getout. But I shall be content with the simply astonishing 11-12 I seem to be getting out of this 36' monster I have here now...of course I have yet to refill the tank yet! geeze 130 gallons...ouch

30 MPG may be a tad on the optimistic side. A friend of mine bought an early Sprinter-based RV back when they were new. He said they managed 27 mpg once in awhile, but usually it was in the low 20's. Still much better than a typical RV, of course.
At Watkins Glen last year, I saw a Sprinter RV towing a small race car in an enclosed trailer. That's what I'm hoping to replicate in a few years.

I don't think this one is cool looking but look at the nose... it seems oddly familiar.

Ours was similar, but a bit larger with a 440. It ate starters and alternators, and maybe went 55mph. It was nice when you got to where you were going, but there were no guarantees it would start when you wanted to go home. And if it did start, you didn't know how far it would go before something broke. Think about the worst British car you've ever heard of, and then imagine it being as reliable as a Honda compared to the Winnie. Yeah, it was THAT bad. I cringe when I even hear the words motor home!

Do notice the picture was taken with a Jag next to it. These people are used to breakdowns
I wonder how a Brave would do with a decent modernish diesel?
