So, I went to replace the crankshaft position sensor on my 06 G35.  The replacement sensor has the magnet oriented 90* from the one that I removed.  Does the orientation matter?  I put the original one back in for now because I could not get the wiring connector on once I installed the replacement , but I could possibly make the connection and then get the replacement into the hole (not sure, because I didn't try considering I wasn't sure if the orientation mattered.

Original looks like this

While the replacement looks like this except the connector comes straight off like the one above.  Note the orientation of the magnetic part compared to the hole for the mounting bolt.

Yes, it will work.  Nissan connectors are a gargantuan pain in the ass.  I think that one needs to have the slide moved back just a bit more than is physically possible, so it locks back.  Then you slide it onto the sensor and the lock snaps down.

If you can get it on the sensor and still have room to do up the bolt, go ahead.

Yep, been a known issue for YEARS.  The sensors going bad AND old sensors not matching new sensors.

Snuck out for a few minutes before it got totally dark and tried the connector on the new sensor. It won't slide on the sensor at all oriented with the bump to latch onto on the proper side. That may have been the reason I couldn't get the connector on in the first place.  If I rotate the sensor 180* it slides right on and will fall right off...

I mentioned cursed Nissan connectors.  Make sure the atupid slidey thing, if it's there, is all the way back and locked.  It should unlock when it snaps onto the sensor.

Or it's busted.

What brand sensor?

I have received sensors from one brand where the connector pocket was too shallow or narrow at the base.  You couldn't click the connector in without removing the connector's end cap.

And I wish I could remember what brand it was.  A different supplier's sensor worked like a charm.

So, the part on the sensor that the clip is supposed to connect over is like the top picture where it looks like a "T" in the bottom of the left side of the image.  The connector will not even start to slide on with the clip on that side.  The opposite side of the sensor is completely smooth and flush and has no means whatsoever to capture the clip.  The clip slides on all the way, but if a fly farts in Asia it falls off...

Sensor is a Hitachi because I read on the internets (so it must be true, right guys?) that Hitachi was the only non-OEM brand that would last and I could get it for half price in 3 days instead of 3 months.
