EDIT: Cruze hatchback is apparently what we're getting, according to AutoBlog.

A good friend of mine works for a GM dealer in FL. He just texted me to say his dealer principal pulled him aside and told him the Cruze wagon will be arriving in the U.S. later this year.

I'm really, really hoping this is reliable information just as much as everyone else here surely is...

Would we expect anything less from the company that waits until the last minute to build the cars everyone wanted from the beginning, then unceremoniously kills them off?

If that is true, I want to know why they chose now? It's been out for a few years in Europe. They probably think they will steal the 6 people that own Jetta SportWagens.

And if they are, it better come with the diesel optional.

Those 6 people must have bought a lot of them and all live in SE PA/NJ, because I see of crap-ton of Jetta Sportwagons around here...

I don't know how likely it is. The cruze is due for a redesign for 2016, and if the wagon is as ugly as the 2016 sedan put me firmly in the no thanks group.

I'd have to agree with Ian. Out of those 6, the ones that live in SFL bought a whole bunch.

BTW, I have not seen the wagon but I have seen the hatchback in person and it looks really nice. I am not a fan of the Cruze looks, but I thought it looked better than the Focus in Hatchback form.

I've never even heard of a Cruze hatchback … I do drive a Sonic hatchback … could that be what you're referring to ? or is there actually a Cruze hatchback ?

I'm not 100% sure, but the Vauxhall Insignia looks damn close to a Cruze, and they sell a wagon version in Europe...

Yawn. Wake me up when Mazda brings in some 6 wagons. I even promise not to whine if they don't give us a manual gearbox & diesel.

The Insignia is a Buick Regal. But yes, a twin turbo, AWD wagon would be just fine.

Cruze hatchback.

I did not see them in the US though, saw them while travelling abroad.

Here are a couple of pictures I found:

Disclaimer: As long as this isn't part of them rolling out a new chassis that also is much larger and heavier, like when Subaru told/trolled us that they were sending a WRX to the US, then they revealed that the new Impreza was bigger than the old Legacy... Sure it wasn't bad but it wasn't as good as what we wanted.

When has GM ever done that? I mean besides the Corvair. And the Fiero. And the G-bodies. And the 4th-gen F-body. And arguably the C4.

Oh, I forgot about those. JUST LIKE GM DID.

I suppose I should keep an eye on Sonic RS futures. I like what I got now but I want a Sonic RS someday, and there will be a critical kneepoint when they get cheap enough for the dipwad brigade to buy them up and ruin the extant population. The key is to buy before that happens.

interesting … I wonder if you can get it in the Eco6 trim … that's the only thing that's disappointing about my Sonic … the same drive train as the Cruze (1.4L T 6MT) but I can't get the milage that a friend gets with his (larger) Cruze … but his is the Eco6 which some folk have indicated has a lot of aero "tricks" that help it

I'm liking the styling of the Cruze more, and the hatchback, but it looks like they should have made the hatch taller. It looks like a hatch for a sports car, not an economy car. Mazda made the 3 sporty looking with a tall hatch.

In reply to Mr_Clutch42:

I like the looks of it, but yeah it looks like the took away some rear seat headroom and hatch storage volume to give it the look they wanted. In the 3.5 years I've had my WRX hatch, the back seats have had a passenger 3 times, so I would be willing to trade rear headroom for style as long as there was still decent amount of cargo space with the rear seat folded down.
