Hey guys I just wanted to put the word out that with this weekend 26-27 Mar 2016 being a big race weekend we have decided to do a final farewell for Mike Smith's ashes. He said in his will that he wanted to be spread out to the tracks in the southeast. I have already spread his ashes at turn 3 Road Atlanta, and turns 3 at Barber Motorsports Park. I will also be spreading him at Roebling Road and now CMP. Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) was pretty much his home track. We raced numerous 24hr of Lemons races and regular NASA and SCCA events there. I have the 13B engine that I got from him in my 80 RX-7 racecar and will be giving him one last ride there. The plan is to let him go on the front stretch some time between 4:30 and 5pm on the 26th. If anybody who knew him wants to be there I am sure his family would appreciate it.
As most of you know he was a engineer at heart and was able to do some wild things with the tools that he had. Maybe not a professional job but one that worked in the end. He talked me into dropping a rotary into my Spitfire racecar. I have since become a rotary nut as well. Mike was my friend, adopted dad, and just an all around awesome guy that would help anybody if he was able to. I know he got tired of me calling and asking questions all time LOL.
Most of you have seen the posts from Grassroots Motorsports Tom Suddard and Ed (can't remember last name LOL) who graciously agreed to help take Mike's turbo rotary out of his racecar and drop it in the Miata. I was honored to be apart of that work. I hear that it is almost done and coming along nicely. They (Tom, Ed and Steve) will be back in NC sometime in Apr to probably add the finishing touches. I wish I could be there. Whoever buys this turbo rotary miata is going to have a fun little car. So Tom, Ed and Steve I thank you for taking on such a hellacious project.
