We are looking at getting a data acquisition system for use mainly for autocross, but with a few hdpe days thrown in. Most likely we will be getting the solostorm system.

I know in previous threads on this people have said save your money and get instruction, which we have done. But we are geeks at heart and would love over analyzing our crappy driving.

So my question, you can get the basic setup with GPS tracking, and then add cameras and accelerometers. How much help are the accelerometers and video in trying to move from "very bad" to "slightly mediocre" driving?

One thing that helps a lot is predictive lap times. Immediate feedback - you can hang the tail out around a corner and instantly get told "that just cost you 0.75 seconds". Wouldn't work on autocross, I don't think.

now that sounds cool, what systems can do that?

Most of them, I suspect. It's something to look for on the spec sheet. You need an in-car display to take advantage of it. My old Traqmate will do it,a dn I think Harry's Lap timer will as well.
