Daughter who is going away to school soon needs a car. She has looked at a 2010 Honda Fit. From everything I have seen it appears to be a car that will fit her needs going to school.
The only issue I have seen on line is that could be a problem with the comfort of the seats. As I know that she will be doing some road trips and will also be driving in winter conditions at some point. No snow yet but I know its coming.
Would this be a good choice for her and would it last for the duration for her education and not break the bank for the car on the road ?
Or Would you recommend something else for her.
Thanks in advance
sounds like a perfect fit, no pun intended. I'd check Nissan versas as well, but would lean, rather strongly, towards the fit.
Pay under $2,000 for an older Sautrn and spend the rest on...
They hold a lot of stuff, so all of her things should Fit. Honda seats are usually a pretty good Fit. It sounds like the perfect Fit.
She's reaching adulthood. Let her make the decision, with a right to veto from dad.
I gave my daughter a price, and the requirement of it being a manual transmission. Everything else was on her. Finding it, contacting the seller, negotiations for price, getting the paper work straight. I would answer questions and offer recommendations but it was pretty much her deal.

I love my father's 2009 Honda Fit Sport.
But, as the father of a daughter who recently destroyed an Accord with a bridge abutment and walked away, I am a big advocate of 2003+ Honda Accords for daughters. They never, ever break and they protect their occupants well in a crash.
Crashworthiness would be my first priority, and that would point me toward something larger than the Fit.
Yes, the Fit will be perfect. We had one for several years, it was my wife's daily driver. They do fine in the snow...those skinny tires pack the snow down quite well. With true snow tires it'd be even better.
As for getting her through college, those damn things are so reliable they'll get her through college, grad school, doctorate, marriage, having children.... Easy to work on and consumables are cheap.
They did fine in crash testing, and in my work I've seen many of them wrecked. They don't concern me for safety.

Two occupants. No injuries.
I seem to remember something about the Fit doing really poorly in certain head on accidents but my memory is remarkably bad these days.
I'm a fan of mid size sedans for new drivers, Accord, Taurus, Altima. All are stupidly safe compared to most anything else and are built to run forever on minimal maintenance.

Seems good on the crash-ability.
An accord will do much better than a Fit on highway drives. I would also venture a guess that one would have an easier time finding a well maintained accord over a Fit.
I'd go with a used Accord as well. Get heated seats and budget for actual snow tires, but it looks like you are in Canada, so you know that already.
Just avoid Hennessy Honda of Woodstock, GA. I've heard bad things about them.
A Miata is also a good one, unless she needs more trunk and passenger space. A Camry, Altima, Impala are also ok choices for her too, safe and affordable.
