You know, this is where I went first. Then I thought, this is my world not hers. She is not going to want to deal with parting out the thing. I talked it over with her, she declined. Could she profit by 100% by parting it out? yes. would it work without  me doing all the work? In my opinion, no. So intact it will be sold, for better or worse.

Let's just take a second here to send a quiet "Nice job, people" to the engineers who designed a 2010 Corolla that could land on its roof at the bottom of an embankment and still look that good.  Oh, and, incidentally, save Gunner's daughter's life.

Get the CL/FB ad up right away and see who bites.

However, I have had this ad up for 5 days and zero bites.

Wow, that doesn't look that bad.  Think I would pull the seats and the windshield and clean up the glass.  Create some jacking points with cribbing on the floor.  Get a porta-power and jack the 'A' posts out until the doors fit properly.  You will have to figure out the curve needed across the top edge to match the curve of the new windshield - a porta-power will move that metal easily... you will just need to move it slowly so that you don't create waves.

Think the sheet metal above the windshield can be pulled out with a stud puller to the point that it wouldn't take that much filler to get the shape back.

I did exactly this on my 1971 MGB-GT - drove it for years after that with no issues.

In response to your ad, How would someone respond where their offer would not be too low(I'll give you 150 bucks and a case of old(but poor quality) scotch, or too high (Ill give you 16,000 dollars but I have to sell my beanie baby collection first.) What is a salvage equinox  that needs exterior pieces affixed to it worth to the average consumer? I think you would get more responses if you put a number near what you would accept for it.

I bow to the you, Didn't know such ability existed. All four doors open and close as if the car were good structurally, only the roof along the windshield is bent so that the car won't accept new glass in the windshield slot. both front and rear bumpers are slightly busted and sheet metal all around the car is dimpled and bent.

I bought it at is a auction (for too much).  In the following weeks (when I get not busy)  I intend to tow it back to IAA and have them auction it off for me.  That is when we will see what it's worth.

The week I bought it, someone bid $25 less than I bid.  We'll see if that happens again.

It can be made to look close to the same, but it'll never have the same strength and rolling it again could be a real problem.  Not something I'd want my child driving...

If you check, you will see that Gunner said that the doors still opened fine.  The center of the roof ahead of the sunroof is distorted.  The body shell in this case does not seem be compromised or the doors would not open or close.

Would I have put my daughter in my rebuilt MGB-GT?  berkeley no.

The damage here is much less concerning.

Glad she's okay.

I think what I'll do is get the spare on it(One wheel got bent and wont hold the tire on) check it over and start it up then take it down the street. based on the trash  i see on craigslist around here if it drives, I'll put it on CL for 2 grand and the first 500 bucks or more takes it.

If it doesn't drive I'll put it on CL for 500 bucks just to get it out of their hair.

Thanks to you guys. I have the plan.

Good plan. The car did it's job. Get what you can and move on.

I knew a guy with a body shop that made more money fixing up stuff like this and selling it than he did in repairing wrecks.    He had an insurance adjuster who would total cars and send them his way.  But he had a body shop so his repair costs were low.

He once bought two wrecked BMW's, one smashed in the back and one in the front.  Then cut them both in half and welded the two good halves together.

This was in the bad old days of the 70's but no doubt stuff like that still happens.

That looks repairable to me.  The structure of the A pillars is fine, the sunroof didn't even break, just the squishy unsupported bit in the middle.  It is probably worth a swing past a local body shop to see what their opinion is on a repair.

Did the airbags deploy? That's what often ends up "totaling" a car like that.

Might be a candidate for the annual driving tour of cars with the roof cut off.

That car looks like it is one Porto-power and a windsheild away from being an fine little ice racer.

In reply to Sonic :

It's definitely repairable. whats not pictured is all the other damage that a body shop would have to repair to make it "right". Right now it is so close to when the accident happened she can't even look at the car. I hope someone fixes it after they buy it and drives it for another 10 years. At this point she needs to get it out of her life and she's married and doesn't live with me, so I can at least make that happen.

I was on the scene literally less than 2 hours after it happened. It looked as if it had ended up right side up it could have been driven out. berkeleying black ice.

This was a bad situation that thankfully ended with nothing more than a forum post about a totalled Corolla. But the DE instructor in me can't help but point out the fact that distracted driving caused this crash. Ice or no, on the phone in questionable weather is poor judgement clouded by a distracting conversation. I'm sorry this happened, but it could have been avoided and hopefully impresses on all the need to focus on driving when driving. I intend no offense. Just stating what appears to be obvious based on your posts.

Corollas never break so parting it out would be a waste of time.

It is repairable, just not economically so for someone who can't do it themselves. I'd sell it as a whole car as-is. Some rebuilder will buy it to fix and flip (pun intended). Perfectly legit to sell wrecked with a clean title.

This is a good example of why you should carry collision coverage on older cars that are still worth money!

The A pillar isn't split. Those cars have a seam between the roof and the pillars/roof rails. That is where the roof gets spot welded on. There is a trim strip that is stuck in the seam. These aren't bad to put roofs on unlike my E36 M3 that has no seams (that I also rolled).

Call a couple salvage yards for purchase quotes, add $500 or more to the price and stick it on C-list. It will probably go within a week.

In the years up until her getting her license I made plans to not only get her in street survival school I also had plans to take her autocrossing where she could feel how a car drives at limits and she would have none of it. Even refused to learn to drive stick while on the road learning to drive a stick. Good times.
