I was just wondering- Seems the 4.0 Jeep motor has a lot of friends here. Has anybody ever slapped a turbo onto one? As a straight six, it would seem to be a lot simpler than a V-8, tough innards, not too big a package. Could be fun in a stripped out Cherokee.

Making a stroker seems to be a good grassroots option as well.

It is a very stout engine, especially if you use a 96+ engine block, known as the NVH block, with extra webbing. Using a Jeep/AMC 258 crank and rods with some aftermarket pistons and 4.0 head and FI system, 220 hp/300tq is readily available, and there is plenty of room left for more.

Here's something else to screw with your mind: the AW4 Transmission used on ALL 4.0 Cherokees (XJs, not Grand Cherokee ZJ's) is the same transmission used in all Lexus LS400s, Toyota Tundras and Sequoias, and Supras. SO, extension from that, you can bolt any Lexus/Toyota V8 or I-6 to the transmission in the XJ (using the Toyota/Lexus bellhousing and custom mounts) and it will work with the stock XJ Jeep transfer case/axles/suspension.

Hell yea

Or you could reverse that & bolt a 4.0 into a Supra, just because, I suppose...

Trucks! on Spike recently did a rebuild in a 4.0....I think that they stroked it. You might want to check on the Powerblocktv site for info.

Personally, I'd like to see a stroked 4.0 in a Kammback. Kooky weird looks with balls.
