My tow vehicle is a 1990 E250 Coachman camper van Class B RV.

In the 17 years I have owned the toilet was used once, the shower once, the cook top once and I've slept in it twice. I have used the heater twice. I nevervusecthe fridge as the Yeti cooler keeps everything cold all weekend

It's great place to sit and eat lunch as well as change in and out of my drivers gear.

We've discussed two options.

Get a custom van with a topper tall enough for me to stand up in (I am only 5' 7").

De-RV my RV. I don't care about the resale value so I could pull out all of the RV stuff like small tub and toilet as well as the heavy RV equipment. I could then have a nice changing area there as well as a space to use the van as a van to get stuff from the hardware store. It would also remove a few hundred pounds from the Van.

The only reason I am considering reconfiguring my current van is because it's a known entity.  The transmission only has 5000 miles on it, the AC is brand new, the tires are only 2 years old and I have upgraded the cooling system.

Hard sided vehicles would be my preference every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

If you need the towing, go get an econoline with a mid-roof topper.  If you don't need the towing, get a Sprinter or a Transit.

An RV is a cardboard box on wheels so unless you need the acoutrements, hard pass.

In reply to 93gsxturbo :

I'm under the impression that this is more van than RV in terms of the exterior, after googling it

With #vanlife you can probably get decent money for your van, then upgrade to a newer chassis that you can make into a more appealing drivers lounge that will have an easier time towing than your current van.

I say go for it.  The devil you know sort of thing.  Probably can sell the RV stuff to someone making their own RV out of a van.
