But getting them to cancel...
When you just give them a touch, they blink 3 times and automatically stop.
When you push past the detent, turning the wheel that direction and cancels them, or just pull it back out of the detent. Works the exact same in the earlier cars I mentioned as well.
Just like every other car I've driven the last 21 years.
The turn signals that I can't stand are the ones in Ford Trucks recently.
Half flick gets you the 3 clicks, and it goes to the normal spot. Normal flick turns it on BUT IT DOESN'T STAY THERE. So I always think I didn't hit it hard enough and hit it again... which turns it off.

Oh good, I thought it was just me.
I'd love to know who thought it was a good idea for a control that you need to know by feel if it is on or not to center like that. Next up: H gate shifters that return to the center of the gate no matter what gear you are in, and infinite-scroll steering wheels.

I strongly suspect those controls are cheaper to make, and likely to last longer than ones with real detents. Which doesn’t matter at all when they are less user friendly.
DW's 2017 60-series Volvo is set up so that you push up once on the right stalk for a single mist-swipe of the wipers, and push down in 3 stages for normal operation.
My 2019 60-series Volvo is the opposite.
What makes me what to scream is when you turn the wipers off on American cars and they wipe on more time, on a dry windshield. All of my Japanese and German cars stop when you turn them off, just like the label on that position of the switch reads.

It'th a conthpirarhy by the washer fluid vendors to make you have to hit the squirter again.
I don't think I've driven one vehicle that had a control stalk that I liked. Every single one has some problem. If I had it my way I'd probably have turn signals on the stock and everything else on the dash somewhere.
I alternate driving between an XC90, a Sentra and an 82 Camaro. Single swipe is either up, down, or non existent.
The Ford signal switch...I am totally aware of how it works, but my reptilian brain pretty much insists on turning them off every time the lever springs back to center. I presume I would get used to it fairly quickly if I drove one all the time.

Old Fords. Turn signals on the stalk. Everything else, somewhere else. The only other thing that the turn signal stalk did was release the tilt column, if you pushed it away hard enough. That, of course, lead to, "I wonder if this has tilt wheel. <*snap*> Guess not."

Unless it's from the early days of airbags, and then the horn is on the stalk, too. Push in from the end to honk. I guarantee not ONE was ever honked in time to prevent anything bad.

There are people in this group who complain about key fobs on new cars making it so you can unlock, start your car and driveaway without having to fumble with a key to unlock the car, then into a keyhole on the column, then listen to swing around as you drive.

That pre-dated airbags. English Fords had the horn button there. US-market Fords in the 80s inherited it from them.

Pretty sure this is the second thread I created where you complained of first world problems. It's a car forum. Everything here is going to be a first world problem. Not sure there needs to be a reminder of that.

And how unfair it is that the cars don't protect you from connecting the battery backwards.

I didn't know that. What on Earth FOR?! Could that be less intuituve?

And, after a couple 90s era GM products, nothing phases me anymore.
With the Custom Cruiser, I recall the cruise sometimes shutting off if I fully engaged the turn signal or turned the wipers on.
I still to this day flinch every time I do either when I have the cruise set on my Mercedes.

For the uninitiated, there was a random rocker switch on top of the steering column for London/Tokyo parkers.
Only took me one battery to figure that one out.
Glad I'm not the only one who this has happened to...

I just think it goes to show, on average, how great life is in the Western world that people complain about such petty things.
In reply to z31maniac :
Imagine a group of people laughing about car quirks, comparing stupid things engineers come up with. Is there a need to remind them that their complaints are pretty? If the answer is yes, the problem is on you.
There's plenty of other forums where real world problems are discussed. That's how things are fixed you know. On internet forums.
Because of the column shift on my Ridgeline, everything else gets moved to the left side. Then I drive my wife's Mazda and thrash around like a blind man. Yeah, some things should be standardized. next thing you know, they'll put a bunch of buttons down by your right elbow.

I'm assuming it's so the steering wheel didn't need the contactor plate arrangement needed for a horn mounted wheel.
