So I was watching the Montery Historics this weekend and there was a Dekon Monza racing. It reminded me of a long time interest in these old IMSA GT style Monza's. I've owned a couple Monza's in the past, and really liked them overall. One had a 3.8 Buick V-6 and 4 speed, and it ran pretty well, especially after adding a cam, headers, and 4 bbl carb. I never hear anything about them here, so I'm wondering if there's any Love on the forum for the Vega, Monza, Skyhawk, Starfire? Does anyone know of a kit to replicate one of those old road race cars?

I loved my old Starfire, Did a bunch of work to that odd fire terd before riping out the engine and swapping in a cammed high compression even fire V6

My dad had a Starfire--V6 and five-speed, too.

There was a Monza Spyder with a V8 for sale at one of the local swap meet this fall, I hadn't seen one of those things for years. I wasn't in the market for one but thought it was pretty neat.

I remember a story on the Dekon Monzas in Road & Track that stated that they had massive horspower and could and would smoke the tires at 100+ MPH

I always thought those were a little understated for my tastes . . .

That's so out've control outrageous. Much better way of compensating, right there.

I always thought the old H-bodys were cool. Imagine one with a 3.8 turbo (Grand National) motor and some brake/suspension upgrades.

I saw the same race (and the one last year) and still love the Monza IMSA car.

Made me go search for one on the internet...they are hard to come by it seems.

That's too bad. Like I need to be obsessed with another crazy car.

I found a few 80's Chevy Monzas...is that the same thing? What is that winged thing up there, originally? That's a heckuva ugly body kit, but uh, something about it makes my day.

i bought a 78 monza coupe new. 305 v-8 posi,F41suspension and 4 speed. instaled hedders, 600 cfm holley on a weind manifold and 327-350 cam . ran up to about 130 with a little ferrari dino for a little while coming out of peoria. decided his engine would last a lot longer at 130 than mine at that speed. backed out of it and drove sanely back to bloomington. car handled much better than most people think. F41 suspension had a lot to do with it. brakes on the other hand...

FYI...... Gerre Payvis at RacePower in Murfreesboro, Tenn. still advertises on his web site complete and individual Dekon Monza racing bodies and parts.

His price for a complete body is 3800.

google, Gerre Payvis and Racepower......you should find his site.
