Got my John Deere F935 running. New electric pump. Some debris was on the intake side of the old pump so I installed a clear inline filter ahead of the pump. So it runs but will stall out after 10 minutes or so and is a pain to restart. Once restarted, it acts like it's running on 1 or 2 cylinders, then revs up after a while. I've found that bumping the forward pedal it helps speed up the process. Also, PO got rid of the regular ignition. Now it's a pump switch and start button, and I'm seeing the glow plug light is constantly lit. Ideas? Help!!
I'm not familiar with tractor diesel engines bit that sounds like you are getting air in the fuel lines some how or it's not getting enough fuel flow.
id go back through the fuel system.
aa far as the glow plug light that sounds like a relay or module issue. again I'm not familiar with this set up, I use to turn wrenches on big cat, Detroit, and volvos.
Air in the lines sounds plausible. Doesn't take much. Start at the pickup in the tank. I've also never seen one of those clear filters that didn't have an air bubble in it. Even if it's not sucking air, the jiggle of the filter will put micro bubbles in the fuel which will make the injectors not open.
Glow plug sounds like maybe either the glow plug relay is stuck on or the head temp sensor is failing and leaving them on.
We just went through this with a Cat backhoe. It was a slightly loose fitting on the suction side of the electric lift pump. Just enough that it could suck a little air into the system.
Any air in the system will piss off a diesel.
