It is a racecar, but I plan to take it to cruise-ins, etc. and want it to look as nice as possible. I'm not sure I could even find a glass replacement windshield, and I'm sure it would be pricey if I could.
Lexan looks like the way to go.

Since this old thread has come back up I will add another helpful hint: Do not get/leave Loctite on in it. It will ruin Lexan.
I only use nyloc nuts and stay away from the Loctite.
