Eh consumables are not too bad.  ...  And tires are not too bad for street performance tires.  .....

305 width zo6 tires are going to be around $300 a piece. Miata tires are still around $100 a piece. The difference between $500 and $1300 is significant to me. It is WAY easier to quickly destroy rear tires on a z06 than a miata.

MPG highway in a corvette can touch 30mpg, sub 10mpg on premium is also possible tooling around town and autocrossing. Although there is a difference between buying 4 plugs for a miata and 8 for a 'vette, the need to maintain items like might not be such a factor. There is a "corvette tax," some parts just cost more.

As far as insurance: most likely the corvette will be cheaper to insure. It was explained to me that insurance rates are based on average claims per vehicle. Stereotypically corvette owners are older and garage their cars: thus lower claim numbers and pay outs. Cars owned by people who crash often and make insurance claims will have higher rates.

I had a slightly modified c-4 which I got rid of for a NA miata (apples to oranges with a zo6) and I am happy with the decision as the corvette just had more speed and potential than I had talent. I can catch the tail out in my miata, I had spun my c4 more times than I can count on an autocross course as I kept getting in over my head due to the power and higher grip.

I don't think there is much logic in moving from a miata to a z06, however it will be fun, and I think you should do it.

Yeah.  I really like the color and i’ve Talked to the seller.  If things go well i’ll go for it.

The price is pretty low, the car has a salvage title from a collision several years ago.  For autocrossing I may go full stupid and pick up another set of wheels and run take off Hoosiers on it in SSP.

It is stock other than a MGW short throw shifter, Hurst knob, viper mod (adding a washer on the trans to make rowing the short throw easier), and Skip-shift eliminator.

if I sold I’d just be looking for another project.  I think I’ll hang onto it awhile.

Funny thing too is that I probably did more damage to the dually when I hit it than the Vette.  But I don’t care because work truck.

Daily driving on $300/ea road race or drag race tires is dumb.  I thought I needed to do it when I had my C5 and it sucked.  Worst decision I ever made on that car.  My tires were a compromise for everything and undriveable in the rain or cold weather.

Good news is you can get a complete set of Kumho Ecstas in the C6 sizes shown in the pic of the blue car for $675 on Tire Rack.  Run those for daily derping, swap wheels when you are at an event, if you even take the car to an event.

30MPG is very realistic on a C5 (on premium of course).  Best I saw with mine was 32 or 33 on the highway, just cruising at 75.  Never saw single digits even with my supercharger, usually 15-16 average around down and 22-25 on the highway.

Danny Popp has campaigned one very successfully in the Optima challenge shootout (Ulitmate Street Car Challenge?) thingy.  There was even a write up on him in GRM a few years back where he detailed a bunch of little things to make the car faster.  IIRC he runs the rear sized wheel and tire on the front too.  I believe that tidbit is also shared in one of the podcasts featuring GRM's C5Z.  All those podcasts are very informative and I assume they're still on the Tube.
