Actually, I've always thought it was an interesting package: Small, cheap, simple, RWD car. I guess a Pinto does the same thing with better aftermarket support.

Still, I'm intrigued by your mention of capable Chevettes in Europe. Was it the same car there? Any links?

If you meant "same as the US Chevette", no it was not. The Euro car was based on the Opel (from your link):

Although the Chevette was largely a rebadged Opel Kadett C with revised front-end...

if you read the wiki.. it mentions that the chevette is on the T body platform. Same as the US Chevette and T1000.
